The week of the event was closing in, and every detail of the plan was finally taking shape. Sitting in my office, I reviewed the agenda, envisioning the sequence of events we'd been carefully orchestrating for months. The guest list was finalized, catering and music selections set. All that remained was to make sure each of those puzzle pieces fell into place on the day.

A quiet knock on the door interrupted my thoughts. I looked up to see Sofia, standing there with a small smile, holding a neatly sealed envelope in her hands. Her expression told me she knew exactly what I'd been waiting for.

"Got something for you," she said, walking over to the desk. She held out the envelope like it was some grand prize, clearly enjoying the moment.

I gave her a look, taking it from her. "Perfect timing, as always."

Sofia chuckled. "Thought you'd appreciate the confirmation coming in today, especially with everything needing to line up."

I tore open the envelope, pulling out the guest list confirmation and a few final notes for the event. Everything we needed for this launch was in order—and if things went as planned, it was going to be a standout affair. But there was one name on the list I'd been particularly interested in seeing: the designer. She had accepted.

A quick glance at Sofia's smirk told me she'd probably guessed my curiosity.

"She'll be there, then?" she asked, feigning a casual interest.

"Looks like it," I replied, keeping my expression neutral. But inside, I felt an unexpected spark of anticipation.

"Good. About time you meet the mystery designer." Sofia grinned, obviously pleased with herself. "Anything else on your agenda for today?"

"Nothing I can't handle," I replied, scanning the papers once more. "Just making sure every detail is exactly where it needs to be."

Sofia laughed, the sound easy and warm. "You're like a machine sometimes. Maybe you'll let yourself actually enjoy this event."

I rolled my eyes, but couldn't help a faint smile. "I'll enjoy it as long as it's flawless."

Sofia headed to the door but glanced back with a knowing look. "Well, it looks like you'll have something—or rather, someone—interesting enough to focus on, at least for part of the night."

I waved her off, still going through the details, but the thought lingered. I wondered what she was like beyond her reputation. Professional? Reserved? Was her work style as exacting as my own? The suit I'd received suggested an eye for detail that I could respect. And if her work held up in person the way it had in my first impression, then she was an asset worth more than just one design.

As Sofia disappeared down the hall, I continued with my work. But for the first time in a long time, the idea of an event held more than just routine satisfaction—it held something almost like curiosity.
