The last glimpse you caught of Jinx was burned into your mind—a broken figure crumbling to the ground, clutching her head, lost in a whirlwind of her own demons. Caitlyn's grip on your arm was iron-strong, practically dragging you as your legs faltered. Still, you couldn't help but twist around, pulling against her, trying to go back, your eyes desperate, searching for her as they stumbled through the half-lit corridors of Zaun.
"Vi, we have to go back for her!" you pleaded, your voice cracking, barely above a whisper. Each step felt heavier than the last, as if your body and heart both were being dragged in opposite directions.
You broke out of caitlyns grip, your weak body falling into Vi's arms. Vi didn't respond immediately; she just held you steady. When she saw the despair in your eyes, she wrapped you in a firm embrace, her grip solid, grounding. "Y/n, listen to me," she murmured, her voice shaky as tears well up in her eyes. "I know this is killing you. I know she's in there... but she's dangerous right now. We can't... we can't go back."
Tears welled up in your eyes as he fought against the wave of helplessness crashing over you. You dug your fingers into Vi's jacket, shaking your head as if that could somehow convince her otherwise. "She's still... she's still Powder, Vi," you choked out, your voice barely a whisper. "She recognized me, I saw it—she's still in there. I can't just leave her to... to..."
Caitlyns expression softened, still looking around cautiously. Vi's eyes echoed your own pain, "I know, I know. But you're hurt. She's hurt. And this... this isn't the place for us to help her. Not like this." She rested her hand on your shoulder, her grip reassuring as she murmured, "Right now, you're all I've got to worry about."
you tried to reply, but the words dissolved on your lips. "but-" The emotional and physical strain of the past twenty-four hours crashed over you like a wave, making you dizzy, your vision blurring as your heart ached with helplessness. "No... i dont....please...." The world started to spin, each breath shallower than the last, and you leaned heavily into Vi, your legs finally giving out.
"Y/n!" Vi's voice sounded muffled, like it was underwater, as you blinked slowly, your surroundings slipping into a hazy darkness. You felt her arms tighten around him, pulling you close as she whispered reassurances, but you could barely make sense of her words.
The last thing you heard was Vi's frantic, helpless calls, and you could distantly hear caitlyn trying to comfort her, fear in her voice. "Vi we have to go, he needs help."
And then, finally, the darkness claimed you, and the pain, worry, and fear faded into a dull, dreamless quiet.
You found yourself back in the streets of Zaun, shrouded in a deep twilight. The hazy light of street lamps and the soft, eerie green glow of chemtech vats flickered around you, casting long, warped shadows. Ahead of you, a figure stood—a girl with bright blue hair, wearing them familiar scruffy pink and blue clothes. Your heart clenched as you recognized her instantly.
"Powder!" you called out, your voice echoing through the empty streets.
She turned, her eyes wide and innocent, just as you remembered. A small smile played at her lips as she looked at you, and for a fleeting moment, everything felt like it used to. You stepped forward, reaching out, feeling the warmth of nostalgia, hope, and all the things you'd held onto since she'd disappeared. But before You could close the distance, Powder's expression twisted into something dark, almost fearful. She took a step back, her gaze hardening.
"I don't like you anymore, y/n," she whispered, her voice cold and unrecognizable. "You're... different now."
You stopped in your tracks, heart pounding. "No, Powder, please... it's me. It's still me. You're still my friend."
But her eyes, once so full of light and laughter, glinted with something harsh. Slowly, her innocent face melted into the hardened features of Jinx, her expression full of mistrust and disdain. She tilted her head, regarding you like you were a stranger, someone unworthy of her trust, her love. Powder was gone; you could see it in the way her gaze lost all its softness.
As she backed away, her figure blurring into shadows, she muttered, "It's too late, y/n. I don't need you. Don't come for me. I hate you"
Your eyes widened in shock, the words hit like a punch to the gut, like a knife straight through you. "no... dont say that... you dont mean it"
she stares you down "i do, you left me behind, i will NEVER forgive you"
You tried to chase after her, feet pounding against the cracked cobblestones, but the ground seemed to pull you down, trapping you as Jinx faded further and further from view. You reached out, a strangled cry escaping your lips as you watched her disappear, the memory of Powder slipping away.
"No... please... don't leave me."
But all that remained was silence, the echo of your own voice, and the haunting emptiness she left behind.
