The days after the raid on Dominic's facility felt like an eternity, each hour dragging by with the heavy weight of uncertainty pressing down on Elara. The battle had been bloody, the outcome somewhat successful, but there was no real victory yet—not when Dominic's retaliatory strike was inevitable. They'd stolen a key part of his empire, and that would not go unanswered. It was only a matter of time before he came after them, and when he did, it would be brutal.
The estate had become a fortress. Every window was reinforced, and every door was locked and secured. The once bustling halls, filled with the hum of quiet conversations and the occasional laughter, were now eerily silent. The atmosphere had shifted from one of cautious optimism to something darker. The team moved with purpose, but their eyes were always darting to the corners of the room, their hands never far from their weapons. The realization had settled in: this wasn't just a fight for power anymore. This was war.
Elara stood in the war room, her eyes scanning the new plans Adrian had laid out on the table. Her fingers brushed the edges of the map, feeling the heat of the battle that was about to unfold. She knew the stakes had changed. There was no turning back.
"We can't keep playing defense," Adrian said, his voice cold and steely. "Dominic's going to retaliate. He's already regrouping his forces. If we wait too long, we'll be fighting from a disadvantage."
Luca, standing just beside Elara, nodded grimly. His dark eyes were focused, his jaw tight. He had never been one to show emotion, but Elara could see the strain in the way he held himself. This was personal for him, just as it was for Adrian. They'd both lost too much to let Dominic win.
"We need to hit him where it hurts," Luca added, his voice low but firm. "We strike first—before he has a chance to rebuild."
Adrian's gaze locked onto Luca, and for a moment, the air seemed thick with unspoken history. They'd both been through hell together—both had lost family, friends and more to the unforgiving world they inhabited. But now, they were united by a singular goal: to destroy Dominic and take back control.
"We go for his supply lines," Adrian said, his finger tracing the routes on the map. "We hit his dealers, his arms supply—take out his infrastructure. We need to make it impossible for him to rebuild."
Elara felt a cold rush of adrenaline. They were going on the offensive. This was their chance to cripple Dominic before he had the chance to come after them again.
"We'll need to hit fast," she said, her voice sharp. "Coordinated. We'll be splitting up, but we can't afford to get caught off guard."
Adrian met her gaze, his expression unreadable. "You sure you're ready for this?"
"I didn't come this far to back down now," Elara replied, her voice steady, though her heart was pounding. There was no time to second-guess. Not now.
Luca placed a hand on her shoulder, a fleeting moment of reassurance. "We'll be with you every step of the way," he said quietly.
The words sent a strange, comforting warmth through her chest. With Luca and Adrian by her side, she knew they had a chance—no matter how slim. But she also knew that no matter how hard they fought, the cost would be steep. The war they were about to wage would leave scars that would never fully heal.
The next few days passed in a blur of activity. The team split into smaller units, each tasked with taking down different parts of Dominic's empire. Elara, Luca, and a handful of others were assigned to hit his arms supply network. They had intel that pointed to a warehouse hidden in the industrial sector of the city—well-protected, fortified, and likely to be filled with armed men. It would be their most dangerous mission yet.
