As Adrian outlined his plan, the tension in the room was thick enough to cut. Elara sat between Luca and Adrian, listening carefully as he spoke, every word tinged with the gravity of what lay ahead.
"We can't let Dominic's attack go unanswered," Adrian began, his tone unyielding. "But we have to be smart about this. We're not just retaliating—we're sending a message."
He placed a detailed map of Bellaria on the table, each district marked with colored lines and coded annotations. The map felt like a visual testament to the complexity of their world, a network of alliances, betrayals, and carefully crafted strategies.
Adrian's eyes found hers, a dark intensity swirling beneath the surface. "Elara, you're part of this now, and that means you'll be involved in every step, even the dangerous ones. Are you ready?"
The question hung in the air, and though she felt a shiver of fear, she nodded, determination settling in her chest. "Yes. I'm ready."
A faint smile crossed his lips, and she could sense his pride. "Good. We're hitting one of Dominic's key properties tonight. It's an underground club, a front for his weapons trade. If we can seize control of it, we'll have a strong foothold in his operations."
Luca leaned back, crossing his arms. "We're going to need more than just muscle for this. Dominic has that club wired with security. And if he's alerted to our presence, he'll send reinforcements."
"That's where Elara comes in," Adrian said, glancing at her. "You're new to him, unexpected. He won't see you as a threat."
She felt a prickle of doubt. "What exactly do you need me to do?"
"You'll enter the club on your own, posing as a prospective business partner looking to buy in. We'll follow discreetly. Once inside, you'll head to the security room and unlock the main entrance for us. Then, Luca and I will move in with a team and take over."
Elara's stomach twisted at the thought of walking into Dominic's den alone, but she understood the necessity. This was the kind of responsibility she had asked for, the real test she needed to pass.
Luca's hand found hers under the table, giving it a reassuring squeeze. His touch was brief, but it steadied her, and she met his gaze with a determined nod.
"When do we leave?" she asked, her voice steadier than she felt.
Adrian's smile was cold, calculated. "Tonight."
The evening came swiftly, and Elara found herself dressed in an elegant, fitted black dress, a simple silver necklace glinting at her throat. She felt a bit like a stranger in her skin, her reflection in the mirror a stark contrast to the uncertainty roiling within. Yet she squared her shoulders, reminding herself that this was more than a role—it was a step into a new version of herself.
As she made her way downstairs, Luca and Adrian waited in the foyer. Luca's gaze swept over her, a spark of admiration flickering in his eyes, though his expression remained serious.
"You look perfect," he said, and she could tell he meant it. "Dominic won't see through it for a second."
"Thank you," she replied, feeling a strange warmth at his words. She knew she had to keep her focus, but there was comfort in knowing they were with her.
Adrian handed her a small earpiece. "Keep this in at all times. We'll be able to hear everything and direct you as needed. Remember, your main objective is to reach the security room and let us in. After that, we'll handle the rest."
