The night had taken a strange turn, one that neither Sidharth nor Avneet could have predicted. As the last notes of the music faded, and the crowd at Mr. Singh's gala continued to swirl around them, Sidharth couldn't shake the electric current running through him. There, in the midst of the opulent hall, Avneet had, in a matter of moments, become his center of gravity. The walls he had so carefully constructed around himself seemed to crumble with every glance, every laugh, every touch.Avneet's eyes glistened with a mix of satisfaction and something deeper—something neither of them dared to put a name to yet.
"So," she said casually, her voice teasing yet filled with an undeniable warmth, "what's next? Can't let the night end here, can we?"
Sidharth looked down at her, his brow furrowing slightly. "You've got a plan, don't you?" he asked, his voice betraying a trace of suspicion. He had no idea where this night was headed, but there was something about Avneet that kept pulling him forward, something that made him want to know what she had in mind.
With a playful smirk, Avneet glanced at him sideways. "Maybe I do. What do you think?"
Before he could respond, Shivay approached them, his usually composed expression a bit more relaxed than usual. His gaze shifted from Sidharth to Avneet, a knowing smile tugging at his lips. "Well, looks like the evening's been productive," he remarked with an amused tone.
Avneet chuckled softly, her fingers brushing over Sidharth's as she turned to face him. "Dad , I'm going to head home with Sidharth. You can go back to the office. We've got... work to do."
Sidharth blinked in surprise, his expression darkening as his suspicions deepened. Work? Neither of them had any work planned for tonight.
Shivay gave her a long look, his gaze questioning yet understanding, and with a nod, he leaned in, kissing her forehead gently before heading home.
Sidharth watched Shivay's car pull away, an amused smirk pulling at the corner of his mouth as he turned to Avneet. "So," he drawled, his eyes glinting with curiosity, "what exactly do we have to 'finish up' at the base?"
Sidharth stared at her, his gaze intense and questioning.
"Why did you lie?" he asked softly, his voice betraying the amusement that simmered beneath his cool exterior.
Avneet met his gaze, her lips curving upward in a teasing smile. "You really think I'm going with you just for 'work'?" she asked with a raised eyebrow.
Sidharth couldn't help but laugh, his usual stoicism cracking ever so slightly. "You're full of surprises, Avneet."
"I can be," she said, her eyes sparkling with mischief. "But let's not get ahead of ourselves. First, let's get out of here." She took his arm and started walking toward the door, her movements graceful but filled with purpose.
Sidharth chuckled, leaning in closer, his voice a playful whisper. "Are you that eager to get me alone?"
Her eyes sparkled as she laughed, nudging him in response. "Don't flatter yourself. I just thought we could unwind a bit after... that gala."
Sidharth, though still a little taken aback, followed her wordlessly. As they exited the building, the cool night air hit them, and for a brief moment, Sidharth was reminded of how out of control he felt with Avneet by his side. She had managed to dismantle the fortress around his heart in a way no one else ever had, and with every passing minute, he found himself more and more lost in her presence.
They reached Sidharth's car, and as he opened the door for her, she threw him a playful glance. "Get in, Sid. I promise you'll enjoy this."
He hesitated for a moment before sighing and getting into the driver's seat. "I don't know what you're planning, but I'm not exactly in the mood for your games tonight, Avneet."
