Kiyotaka POV
"Good morning, Class B. Today will be a decisive day for you. Some results from the first stage of the special exam will be released and we will also begin the second stage of this exam. Everyone be prepared."
The silence that followed Chabashira-sensei's words felt heavy, but not overly uncomfortable. It was like the air before a storm, thick with anticipation. I could feel the glances passing across the room, some in curiosity, others out of pure nervousness. The teacher's statement made it clear that we were about to see the first fruits, or perhaps the thorns, of our first stage of the special exam.
As I waited for the first results to be announced, I couldn't help but wonder curiously about who would get the most penalty points. Being penalized in this exam wasn't just a matter of points lost. It was a reflection of one's inability to know oneself, to be honest with oneself, or to find a balance between self-criticism and self-worth. A distorted mirror that revealed what many would rather hide.
Maybe egocentrism spoke louder for some here? Perhaps arrogance? Or the simple fact of not knowing oneself? Regardless of what it is, it's up to them to accept it and move on.
I knew the teacher's next words would bring up intense feelings. Guilt, shame, surprise, or even relief. We were all in the same room, but each of us was facing this challenge in a completely unique way.
Chabashira-sensei took a step towards the desk, her heels clicking on the floor in an almost rhythmic fashion. Her steady eyes swept the room before settling back on the paper she held.
"Now is the time." she began, her voice firm and controlled.
"I would like to share the five students who accumulated the most penalty points in this class. I would like to emphasize that these results are the final results of this stage and any type of complaint or dissatisfaction will be completely ignored."
A buzz immediately spread among the classmates. It was a mixture of anxiety and barely concealed curiosity. Some looked around, trying to guess who the unlucky ones were. Others kept their eyes fixed on the teacher, as if they were ready to receive an imminent blow.
Chabashira held up the list, completely ignoring the reactions. It was like a statement from the school itself.
