The Christmas cheer was in the air, or at least as much as could be. The crunch of the untouched white snow mixed into harmony with the families bustling around town. The looming threat of the Dark Lord couldn't penetrate the cheer in the corner house of Godric's Hollow.

"How's baby Potter?" Sirius joked with James holding his stomach. Lily and Remus laughed at their spouses before being ushered fully inside. The quartet reminisced on the easier days before death was around every corner. Sirius- who had made himself comfortable on James lap- to the enjoyment of their spouses- had seen Lily touch her growing bump. "Remus and I have been thinking." James chuckled, shoving him off his lap. "That's never good." Sirius shoved him back but continued nevertheless. "We're thinking of adopting." It went silent before Lily squealed and hugged Remus as James clapped Sirius on his shoulder. "Wow," James wiped faked tears, "he's all grown up."

"I'm older than you Prongs." He rolled his eyes with a huge grin on his face. "I'm not saying I don't agree, at all, but how will you guys take care of a baby and-" Lily looked at Remus, she knew his fears of having children.

"Well when we moved we made sure that there was enough room and space for me to transform comfortably and away from people. But while she's a baby we were thinking of bringing her here, with you Lily, and having Marlene and Dorcas come help when your baby comes along." Remus layed out the plan for them.

"I would be more than happy to help, you didn't even need to ask." Lily smiled, hugging him again.

"When were you thinking of adopting it?" James questioned grabbing another round of drinks for everyone. "It's not an it James." Lily hissed at him, making his eyes go wide. "Sorry, them."

"As soon as possible, really."

As the quartet continued to bask in the Christmas spirit, a Goddess above was listening over.

"Prongs! Open up this bloody door!" Sirius screamed and pounded on the door from outside ignoring the look his husband was giving him. "Sirius please don't scream in front of the-"

"BABY!"

James gasped and froze. "I know you said as soon as possible but you were just here a day ago?"

"We didn't adopt her! Would you let us in so we can explain!"

James nodded rapidly, opening the door wider. "Lilypad! I think the boys need your help." James called up the stairs and soon heard his wife's footsteps.

"So are one of you going to explain why your holding a-"

"BABY!"

Lily gasped running straight to Remus and cooing. "When did you adopt her?"

"That's the thing,' Remus looked at the Potters, 'we didn't. She was on our doorstep this morning with this-' he took a letter from his pocket - laying on top of her."

"What did it say?" James asked as he made space for them to sit down. "We came here to read it with you guys." Sirius looked sheepishly at them. He took the baby from Remus so he could open and read the letter.

To the Lupin-Black's

This may come as a surprise, but I have been listening to your hopes and dreams. Your hidden wishes to have a baby of your own, that shares your blood and features, has been gifted upon you. But be aware, she has powers beyond the imagination, and the wisdom of a thousand men. With time her power will grow and evolve with her. Do not fear her.

"Well that was short." James sighed, oblivious to everyone staring at him incredulously. "Why would we fear our own child?" Sirius spoke sadly, caressing the golden brown cheek of his daughter. "Maybe because she has powers no one knows of. She clearly didn't know her fathers would love her immediately." Lily tried to console him.

"I can't believe she's ours." Remus looked at her over Sirius' shoulder. "She looks just like you." Sirius smiled, looking at her honey brown curls and perfect nose. The baby opened her eyes and they all gasped. "Except her eyes, those are all yours." Remus smiled, kissing his husband softly. "What are you gonna name her?"

"We hadn't thought about it. But I like Anastasia." Sirius looked at his husband. "Anastasia it is. Anastasia Lupin-Black."  They all looked at the chubby baby who eyes were scanning everything around her.

"Her god-father will have to tell her stories." James tackled both Remus and Sirius in a hug being mindful of the baby. "That's you too, Lils." Remus confirmed as she looked teary eyed at the baby. "I'm blaming the tears on the fact I'm pregnant."

And so Anastasia Lupin-Black was born on December 9, 1979. An early Christmas gift.

"Pads, please don't go." Remus begged. He knew Sirius had set up a meeting with Peter but something didn't feel right. "Moons, I've done this before. I've always come back haven't I."

Before Remus could answer Anastasia started crying from her cot nearby. "You don't want me to leave either do you, Pup?"  Anastasia didn't stop crying though. She held onto her father as tightly as she could. "Sirius please. Just stay. Send him a letter. The Floo-Network anything. Just stay!" Remus begged again with tears lacing his eyes. "If you go, we're coming with you." Remus said strictly. "Rem, we can't bring her out there. Stay here with her." He kissed his still crying daughters head handing her to Remus. Sirius muttered under his breath and Remus was stuck to his spot.

"Sirius don't do this." Remus said while trying to squirm out the hold. "I have to do this Remus. If something is bad out there, I have to protect my family. You and Ana are safe here. Lily and James are safe at home. Peter doesn't have anything. He only has us." He whispered pulling him in for a hard kiss. He slowly backed away tears threading to escape at the sound of his husband and daughter screaming for him.

"Sirius! Sirius don't do this! Please!"

Was the last thing he heard before he closed the door; before he closed the door on his family.
