The crisp morning air was still and quiet, a sense of peace lingering in the D'Angelo estate after the chaos of the past few months. The family had settled back into a routine, with moments of calm interrupted only by the occasional visit from trusted allies or the reminder of the dangers lurking outside the walls of their home. But for the moment, life felt ordinary, and they had settled into the rhythm of living with love and vigilance.

Lorenzo sat at the dining table, papers spread before him, though his mind wasn't fully engaged in the work at hand. The sound of Luciana's laughter, high-pitched and full of joy, reached his ears from the adjacent room. He glanced up, a smile tugging at the corners of his lips, as his wife and children were gathered in the living room. His little girl was playing with one of her colorful toys, her face a picture of innocence, while the older boys—Nico, Leo, and Mason—were watching over her, ensuring she stayed safe as she explored.

Alessia moved around the room, glancing over at Lorenzo with a warm smile before returning her attention to Luciana. There was something about watching the boys interact with their younger sister that filled her with pride. The brothers had embraced their roles so wholeheartedly, as if Luciana was the missing piece to their family that completed everything.

Nico was sitting closest to Luciana, his ever-watchful eyes scanning her every move as she attempted to stack small blocks into a tower. Despite his usually reserved nature, there was a softness in his gaze when it came to her, a tenderness that surprised even him. Luciana was his little sister, the one he vowed to protect no matter what.

Xander, leaning against the doorframe, couldn't contain a mischievous grin as he joked with his brothers, making playful comments that brought laughter to the room. Even Leo, usually calm and serious, found himself smiling at the scene, his eyes filled with affection. The boys' interactions with Luciana were proof of the bond they shared as a family, one that had weathered the worst of storms and still found its way back to love.

Lorenzo couldn't help but admire how far they had come. He'd watched them grow from young men into fathers in their own right—protective, loving, and fiercely loyal to the family they had all fought to preserve. There was nothing more important to them than Luciana's safety and happiness.

Alessia caught Lorenzo's eye across the room, her smile deepening. She knew him better than anyone, and she could tell that he was still processing the world around him. The burdens he carried as a father, husband, and the head of a powerful empire were always present, though in moments like this, he could put them aside and just be a father. A father to all of his children.

"You're still thinking about everything, aren't you?" Alessia said, her voice soft as she approached him, sitting down beside him at the table.

Lorenzo's gaze remained fixed on the scene unfolding in front of him. His gaze softened as he watched Luciana, who had successfully built a small tower before knocking it over with delighted giggles. Her laughter was a melody that eased the tightness in his chest, even if only for a moment.

"I'm thinking about how much we've been through," Lorenzo replied, his voice quiet. "How much we've all sacrificed. But I can't ignore the future, Alessia. I can't stop thinking about how to keep all of you safe."

Alessia placed a gentle hand on his arm, her touch warm. "I know. But we can't live in constant fear. We've come so far. Luciana's here with us, healthy, happy. The boys are strong, and they're learning what it means to protect their family. You've taught them well."

Lorenzo turned his gaze to her, his expression unreadable for a moment. Then he softened, his hand finding hers. "I've tried, Alessia. But every day I'm reminded of how fragile everything is. I've seen it too many times, felt the weight of losing it all too many times. The world we live in doesn't forget. And there will always be those who want to take what's ours."
