Isaiah's POV

"So your dad really hasn't said anything?" Iri mutters from beside me, keeping her voice low.

We're currently in 7th period, our last class of the day, the one class we just so happened to have together.

I shake my head, continuing to write down my notes, "I wouldn't put it past him though, my dads known not to let anything go."

"He's also not known to not speak his mind," Iri comments beside me.

"Your dad hasn't said or heard anything?"

She shakes her head, "no, granted he's been coming home late all week."

It's been a week since Damiano and his little 'wanna be' gang jumped me and Leland in the locker room. I obviously was no way in hell about to tell my father who was behind the 'attack' because I wasn't about to unleash his wrath on them.

It's bad enough they already think that I can't handle myself, can't fill my dad nor grandpa's shoes on account of who my mother is, because I'm considered a half bred. Same shit. Different day.

I wanna be able to talk to my dad about these things. I want to open up to him, confide in him but his comfort is the last thing I'll get the second he finds out his wife is getting brought into these situations. My moms the one subject that easily triggers the monster in him, guess I'm more like him than I'd like to admit.

"Psst, Matteo."

I turn to look behind me into the next row to find one of my classmates, Cruzito leaning over his desk.

"Your dad good?" He drops his voice.

I shake my head obviously confused with the question.

"My cousin Layo just posted this," he hands his phone over to me.

I reach for it to find a video of a snap on his screen continually playing over and over, the words 'someone's done pissed off the mafia king', captioned on it.

The video is of multiple black SUVs passing by, driving downtown from the looks of it. There's at least 6 black trucks driving one behind the other.

I tilt the phone to the side, showing it to Iridiana who's sitting to my left, the now same confused look mirroring my own.

She shakes her head, shrugging her shoulders clearly in the unknown just like myself.

I passed the phone back to Cruz, "tell your cousin to take that off of his story, wouldn't want the wrong people to see that."

He nods his head rapidly, his fingers already in motion as he texts his cousin.

"I haven't heard my dad say anything about anything," Iri mumbles softly beside me.

"My dad was out of the house extra early this morning, " I say while pulling my phone out, checking my messages, my social media. "He was gone by the time I woke up today."

Iri nods her head, her eyebrows furrowing, "I heard my dad leave early this morning too, should I call him on the way home to see if I can get anything out of him?"

I shake my head, the hairs on the back of my neck immediately standing up as the school alarm begins to ring loudly.

Iri quickly reaches for my hand on the desk, "Iz, you don't think-"

I instantly shake my head, "no, they're just coincidence."

She gives me a knowing look as if saying even I don't believe that.
