the storm

・・・・☆・・・・☆ ・・・・

A storm had started to build up on the horizon, causing the winds to pick up for the sky to become dark as the rain started to pour. Kyla looked out the control room window's with a worried look on her face, never being on a boat in the storm before.

"The swells are getting worse, and we're making a beeline for it," Pope explained in the control room as John B tried to keep the boat steady. "So much for smooth sailing."

"Okay, why can't we just go south?" Kiara asked.

"Because the current's gonna be up against us," Pope answered.

"We could try to go north. We could try to get lucky," Pope shrugged.

"Pope, we can't go right into the face of it, all right? We've gotta turn towards the coast," John B replied.

"Doesn't sound like we have any options," Kiara commented.

"We're running on fumes as it is. We're just gonna have to blast through it. We're not far from Essaouira," Pope told them.

"All right, so give me some juice."

Pope pulled a lever down, trying to help the boat move better through the aggressive ocean but there had been a sparking noise downstairs. "Okay, something's going on with the engine. Can you handle it? I gotta go check downstairs."

"Yeah, go. Go."

"We should go be with Sarah. Just in case," Kyla whispered to Kiara, not wanting the girl to deal with this alone. It wouldn't the safe for her.

Kiara nodded, turning to John B. "We're gonna go help Sarah. In the galley. Batten it down."

"Yeah. I got it. I got it."

The sisters moved toward the door, holding on to what they could so they didn't fall over from the shifting of the ship. "Are we gonna be able to get through this?" Kyla asked her sister, almost lurching forward before she caught herself.

"I don't know, I don't know. We just have to try," Kiara spoke, trying to remain positive. They continued to move through the ship before a lightning strike zapped the boat, causing them to scream. "Come on, we have to get to the others!"
