Marilyn wasn't sure how to feel, as Christmas made it's way through the air and into the castle.

Snow fell very suddenly, and froze over the lake. Marilyn's early mornings became darker and darker, the sun rising later. The cold was rather foul to most, but there was nothing she loved more than wrapping up in her cloak and gloves.

The ghosts sung Christmas carols and Hagrid dragged twelve large Christmas trees into the Great hall, lining the walls while the largest sat behind the teacher's table.

Marilyn sent a letter to her parents, asking if they could maybe send over some of the clothes she had for Ernie at home, but go no response, so instead she cut up one of her blankets and used the sewing supplies she brought to fix up her own clothes to make her him jacket, and so now he was running about the castle warm while everyone else froze.

Though the Quidditch match made Malfoy, Nott and Riddle worse, Marilyn didn't care for it as much as she did before. She actually managed to insult Riddle when he said she did well during Quidditch. She didn't want another of their strange sarcastic comments, she never understood them and it made her annoyed.

In terms of Christmas, she didn't get a response from her family for going home, so signed up to stay at Hogwarts over the holidays. While this was originally good, as the Weasleys and Potters were also staying at the castle, so was Riddle, which made Marilyn almost run back to McGonagall and tell her that she wanted to go back to Ireland for Christmas.

In terms of Nicholas Flamel, they found nothing. They spent all their free time in the library, searching for him, but there was no mention of him anywhere. Even Hermione was stumped, though she encouraged them to look for Flamel over the holidays.

But when the holidays came, Ron, Harry and Marilyn barely thought of Flamel. They had so much time on their hands with no classes, that they weren't even sure how to fill it.

Marilyn spent an awful lot of time wandering the corridors, finding odd little things. She found the Slytherin Common Room, though she only new it because Riddle had come out of a door that hadn't been there a moment before, as she turned a corner in the Dungeons. She was half tempted to try sneak through the door and look around the common room, but then she was scared that the door may vanish again and she wouldn't be able to get out.

She found a ghost named Myrtle in the nearest toilets, too, who liked to speak of death a lot, and she and Marilyn spend an entire afternoon speaking about how they thought she may die, getting more brutal the longer they were there.

She found lots of hidden rooms and corridors, and knew the way around the entire school by the time that Christmas came. And she felt such excitement for it that she felt like a child. Even seeing Riddle sulking down corridors didn't effect her, since he never teased her when Nott or Malfoy weren't around, so she could ignore him.

On Christmas morning, she woke up to a stack of present at the end of her bed, which she hadn't expected in the slightest. She pulled on her slippers, picked them all up, and ran to Ron and Harry's dorm.

"I got presents!" She ran into their dorm, making Harry jerk awake so violently he fell off his bed. "Harry, you have some, too!"

"Marilyn!" Ron looked at her like she'd killed someone, already awake and eating a chocolate frog on his bed. "You're not supposed to be in here!"

"Oh, ignore that, Ron, it's Christmas!" She had such a gleeful smile, that Harry couldn't help but not be mad at her, as he pulled on his glasses. "Merry Christmas, Merry Christmas!"

they opened their presents together, talking about them and sharing chocolates. Hermione had gotten all of them chocolate frogs, while Harry received a hand-made flute from Hagrid, and Marilyn was given a rather badly carved wooden dog from him, which she believed to be one of the greatest presents of her life.
