When they were alive on Tuesday, Marilyn felt a little better, though Quirrell was much thinner and sicker looking. She wondered why. Was he not eating due to stress? Or was Snape doing something to him?
However, a new stress was end of year exams. Marilyn had thought they'd just be let in again for the next six years, but it appeared that they had to pass their exams to get there.
As the homework mounted up, and both Hermione nad the teachers became obsessed, Ron seemed to lose it one afternoon, as they studied in the libary.
"I'll never remember any of this!" He threw his quill down.
Marilyn was looking out the window, at the first warm, clear day they'd had in months. "Wouldn't it be wonderful if none of the Slytherins in our year passed? No Malfoy or Nott or Riddle, cause they'd all be stuck at home and stupid?"
"Keep dreaming, Marilyn." Harry smiled at her. "It'll stop you from remembering lucks not on our side."
"What- Hagrid?" She looked past Harry to Hagrid, who was standing by a shelf nearby, and hid something behind his back. "What're you doing here?"
He went pale. "Not still trying to find Nicholas Flamel, are ya?"
She flicked her hand. "Found the only known creator of the Philosopher's Stone ages ago." She narrowed her eyes, head now resting on her hand, elbow on the table. "Say, Hagrid, what else is guarding the Stone? Aside from-"
"Shh!" He hissed, face looking terrified. "Don't go shoutin' 'bout that! What's the ma'er with you?"
"I-" She dropped her hand, sitting straighter. "Right. Sorry."
"Look, come see me later. I'm not promisin' I'll say anything, mind, but it's better than havin' ya rabbitin' on 'bout it here, where students can hear. Student's aren't supposed to know. They'll think I told ya-"
"See you later, then." Harry turned back to his book, and Hagrid shuffled out of the library.
"You need to mind your manners, Harry." Marilyn said. "What books do you think Hagrid likes?"
Ron shrugged. "Hell if I know."
Hermione stood up, making her way over to the section Hagrid was in. She came back with a book in her hands, a confused look on her face.
"Dragons?" She questioned. "Hagrid was looking up dragons! Look, Dragon Species of Britain and Ireland, From Egg To Inferno, A Dragon's Keepers Guide."
"He has a dragon?" Marilyn sat up. "A real one?"
"He's always wanted one." Harry said, looking at her. "He told Wendy and I the first day we met him."
"But it's against our laws," Ron told them. "Dragon breeding was outlawed by the Warlocks' Convention of 1709, everyone knows that. It's hard to stop muggles noticing us if we're keeping dragons in the back garden. Anyway, you can't tame dragons, it's dangerous. You should see the burns Charlie's got from the wild ones in Romania."
"But, there aren't wild dragons in Britain, right?" Harry glanced around nervously.
"Sure there are," Marilyn smiled. "But the Ministry wipe memories and keep tabs on them. I've been reading heaps on magical creatures, sorry. I'd love to see a real one."
"It'd kill you before you even got close enough to see it's eyes." Ron rolled his eyes.
"That'd be a cool way to die."
"You're both missing the point," Hermione sighed. "What's Hagrid up to?"
After another half hour of studying, and another of dodging Nott in the corridors, they made their way to Hagrid's hut, and knocked on the door.
