nostalgia is a mind's trick,
a way to soften everything that's past and gone,
like a filter you use to disguise the ugly truth.
it makes you long for something you never had,
and you never will,
because the truth will always be ugly,
in the past as well as now.
you just have to learn to accept it somehow.
and maybe nostalgia's not bad
in itself,
since it highlights the pretty things
and disguises the bad,
so maybe it's alright to look at life,
through the filter of nostalgia,
as long as we don't get lost in it.
