After breakfast, Story and Billie headed back to Billie's room, Shark trotting close behind them. Billie flopped onto her bed, propping herself up against a mound of pillows, while Story settled into the plush beanbag chair near the desk. For a moment, they sat in companionable silence, the faint sound of Billie's playlist filling the room.

"I think I should call my mom about the tour," Story said, holding her phone in her lap.

Billie sat up, her face lighting up. "Go for it! I mean, no pressure, but it'd be pretty awesome to have you along."

Nodding, Story dialed her mom. The phone rang a couple of times before Laurel picked up.

"Hey, sweetie! How's everything going?" her mom greeted, her voice warm and familiar.

"It's been amazing," Story replied, glancing at Billie for reassurance. "Actually, there's something I wanted to talk to you about. Billie invited me to join her on tour for a bit. You know, just to see how everything works."

There was a long pause on the other end of the line. "Wait... Billie? As in Billie Eilish? Why does she want you to come on tour with her?" Laurel's tone was skeptical, though not unkind.

"Well, we've been hanging out," Story explained, her cheeks heating. "We went to lunch the other day, and she invited me over to her house yesterday. I stayed the night, and we're actually in her room right now."

Another pause. "So... you're telling me you and Billie are just... hanging out?" Laurel asked, sounding both incredulous and amused.

"Yeah," Story said softly. "I mean, it's still kind of new, but yeah. She's really sweet, Mom. And she thinks I'd benefit from seeing what it's like on the road, especially since I'll be touring when Short and Sweet drops."

Laurel let out a thoughtful sigh. "Okay. I get that. But are you sure this isn't moving too fast? Touring can be overwhelming, Story. Especially when you're unprepared."

"I know, but I think it'll be a great experience," Story said earnestly. "And Billie's been so supportive. It's not like I'm committing to the whole tour—just a few stops to learn."

Billie, who had been quietly listening, gave Story a supportive smile and mouthed, You've got this.

Finally, Laurel relented. "Alright. If you feel this strongly about it, I trust you. Just keep me updated, okay? And promise to call me if anything feels off."

"I promise," Story said, relief flooding her voice.

"Good. Now, hold on—the twins have been asking about you nonstop."

There was a rustling sound before Kai and Noa's voices came through, high-pitched and excited.

"Story! When are you coming home?" Kai asked.

"I miss you! Are you bringing us something fun?" Noa chimed in.

Story laughed, her heart warming at their enthusiasm. "I miss you guys too. And yes, I'll bring you something cool. Be good for Mom, okay?"

They chatted for a few minutes, with the twins eagerly sharing stories from daycare and insisting she come home soon. Finally, Laurel came back on the line.

"Alright, sweetie. I'm glad we talked this through. I'll support you, no matter what. Just... be careful, okay?"

"Thanks, Mom. I love you."

"Love you too. Have fun!"

As Story hung up, she let out a breath she hadn't realized she was holding. Billie watched her, a curious smile playing on her lips.
