CHAPTER 21
"I'm the sweetest girl in town so why are you so mean?"

I didn't sleep very well last night.
It was impossible with all thoughts of Vincent bombarding my mind and it didn't help that he was right across the hall. Somehow, I had managed to get a few hours but I was still groggy when I woke up. Unfortunately, I woke up very late without even realizing it and I immediately had to dive into work.
The person Vincent had hired to help me, Sean, was currently helping me wash the mess of dishes we had made during our time together. Sean was roughly my height with light brown hair shortened by a buzz cut. He was a nice guy with skilled hands and quiet demeanor.
He was actually younger than me, only twenty years old, and his goal was to go to culinary school. His mother was one of Mrs. De Luca's bridesmaids and he wanted more experience in the field so Vincent hired him to help me. He was genuinely very talented and even though we didn't speak that much he had confided that he wanted to open his own restaurant one day.
I gathered the rest of the dishes from the counter, glancing at Vincent who was talking on the phone outside on the balcony. The sun was setting so he had turned the light on outside but it was still getting impossibly dark.
I blushed as I looked at him. He was in a white dress shirt and black slacks. I noticed that if he absolutely did not have to wear a tie, he wouldn't wear one. Same with his suit jacket. We hadn't spoken much today but we were both busy.
I had been in the kitchen preparing everything for tomorrow with Sean and Vincent had been in the study working or on his phone.
"Alright, that's the last of them Gi. Tomorrow morning at 8?" Sean dries his hand with a paper towel and looks at me.
I smile at him, "Yeah, thank you so much. I'll see you tomorrow morning."
Sean returns it, "Alright, have a good night."
He grabs his jacket and I walk him out, "Get back safe."
The sky had darkened quickly, a consequence that came along with the late fall and winter months. Sean waves at me cheerfully before getting into his car and driving back to his hotel. I watch him drive off before closing the door.
I pad up to my room and think about closing the door behind me but decide against it. I hadn't really spoken to Vincent at all but I really wanted to. At the same time I was too nervous to actually initiate a conversation but hopefully leaving my door open would be an invitation for something.
I flop onto the bed and grab my phone, texting my father to see how everything is going at the manor. The mattress underneath me is soft and plush, the soft lighting makes everything look warm. Without even realizing it, I end up falling asleep.
