Wedding Bells for Twentyone Pilots Frontman?
PEOPLE - July
Tyler Joseph has been happily married to his wife, Jenna since 2015, but the couple announced wedding bells may soon be ringing again.
The couple's adopted 18-year-old daughter, Samantha Joseph (neé Deitz, her late father was the disgraced lawyer Stanley Deitz) whose life has been a roller coaster of uncertainty and trauma, has gotten engaged!
Samantha met her fiancé, Dylan (ln), also 18, of Los Angeles, this past year when Samantha spent the school year in California for her senior year.
In October, Samantha was involved in a serious traffic accident that claimed the life of the driver, and Samantha's friend Brandi Abernathy, who was 18 at the time of her death. Samantha spent two months in hospital in a coma, her prognosis questionable for a long period of time. She spent another six weeks recovering and rehabilitating before returning to school in February of this year.
Dylan sat by Samantha's side throughout her ordeal, including the weeks she was comatose and unresponsive. The couple made their relationship official in late February.
Dylan, however, proposed to Samantha at her parents' home in Columbus, Ohio following Samantha's graduation ceremony from South Columbus High School, where she graduated with high honors, on the Dean's List and Honor Roll. Samantha is a four time National Merit Scholar as well.
She did walk with her class at Mulholland High School at the end of the term, but had been invited to walk with her senior class in Columbus as well.
"Samantha's story started here," Tyler Joseph, the proud father, stated. "It only made sense with everything these kids have been through together, that Samantha would walk with them as well."
It's not unknown that Samantha was present at school two years ago when a fellow classmate entered her classroom and began shooting. Samantha survived the shooting, having sustained a bullet wound to her left leg. She had been shielded by her friend Blaine Carter, 16 at the time, who was killed by the gunman's bullet.
Samantha started a scholarship at the South Columbus school in honor of her late friend.
The night of the inaugural award, Samantha was abducted by her estranged uncle, Mark Solman, Samantha's late birth-mother's brother. She spent six weeks in his captivity before she was able to get help. Mark Solman has been sentenced to 50 years in prison for several charges including trafficking of a minor over state lines.
It was decided by Samantha and her family that a change of scenery would be beneficial, leading to the young woman moving in with family friends in Los Angeles, for her Senior year.
Despite the setbacks Samantha has faced throughout her life, the 18-year-old beamed with pride as she crossed the stage at South Columbus High to receive her diploma.
She reportedly plans to study at UCLA in the fall.
"It's been a wild ride," Joseph's bandmate, Josh Dun, says. "Samantha was such a timid, flighty girl when she landed in Tyler and Jenna's yard five years, almost six years ago. It's been amazing watching her grow into this amazingly beautiful, smart and confident young woman with compassion beyond her years."
