Pedro's POV

I put Wallison's notebook and the books I had brought to Yegor's house on the bookshelf while I accompanied him to his kitchen for lunch.

Yegor's mother was in the kitchen putting the bean stew on the sink and turning on the tap over it. We arrived in the kitchen at the same time that the steam from the pan was dissipating and Yegor's mother had finished preparing the beans.

- Hi, mom! - Yegor said, going over to his mother, hugging her and kissing her on the neck.

- Hi, honey - Yegor's mother said, patting his head.

- Go call your brothers, the food is ready - Yegor's mother said.

Yegor's mother hadn't noticed my presence yet and was stirring the beans with her spoon. Since I was a bit withdrawn, I didn't even say a word to her, standing still in the kitchen.

- Sit down - Yegor said, taking a chair from the table and pulling it out for me to sit.

Yegor's mother turned towards us, a little curious to know who Yegor was talking to, and saw me.

- Sorry, I hadn't noticed you were there - Yegor's mother said to me.

- And your new friend Yegor? - Yegor's mother asked him.

- Yes - his name is Peter - Yegor said

- Nice to meet you, Peter - Yegor's mother said, coming closer and extending her paw to me.

- Nice to meet you! - she said, squeezing her paw.

Yegor's mother was a dog with long brown ears, honey-colored eyes, a little thin and a little tall, and had a thick coat, a little like the girl I had seen in the picture.

Yegor went to call his brothers for lunch while Yegor's mother and I exchanged a few words, talking mainly about Yegor. Yegor's mother confessed to me that Yegor had made many friends, but that his friends had drifted away over time. She also confessed to me that she was very worried about Yegor failing that year because he hadn't had much patience to study.

When Yegor's two brothers returned to the kitchen, his mother served us. Lunch was rice with sausage, beans, and boiled pork.

As Yegor's mother put the food on the plates, I could feel the aroma invade my nose and my stomach tightened. I was very hungry.

Yegor's mother seemed very happy to have me there and asked if I was from the city. I said no, that I had moved to that city not a week ago.

Yegor put a spoonful of food in his mouth and then said that there was no way I was from that city because I didn't look boring.

- Yegor! - said the dog's mother

- I'm telling the truth - said the dog.

- We've already talked about this - said the dog's mother and Yegor got a little sulky.

- Why did your parents move here, Wallison? - asked Yegor's mother.

- I live alone with my mother, she moved here after getting a job promotion.

- Oh, are your parents separated? - asked Yegor's mother.

- Yes, they separated when I was born - I said to Yegor's mother.

- Are you enjoying your new house? - asked Yegor's mother.

I was thoughtful for a few seconds and then said - I still miss my home and my old friends a lot.

Yegor got a little sad expression just by me talking about old friends.

- The food is very tasty - thanks for the lunch - I said to Yegor's mother.
