Nayu's sharp navy eyes met Chrollo's calm, calculating gaze as the grip on his chin tightened just slightly. The faint sound of the church's old wooden doors groaning shut echoed through the empty hall. For a moment, silence hung between them, full of tension"But keep in mind that just because I'm accepting your help doesn't mean that I'm joining" Nayu said coolly. "You might want to reconsider your recruitment tactics, Mr Lucilfer."
A small smirk curled at the corner of Chrollo's lips, his voice smooth as silk. "What I expect, Nayu, is for you to realize that our goals are aligned. It's less about joining and more about sharing the gains."
Nayu swatted Chrollo's hand away, rubbing his chin mockingly. "You don't seem like the sharing type."
A low chuckle from the shadows broke the tension. "He's not," came the familiar, sing-song voice of the clown, who leaned against the churches dilapidated pillar, twirling a card between his fingers. "But that's what makes it so deliciously interesting, don't you think, Nayu?"
Nayu shot Hisoka a look, irritation flickering across his features. Chrollo, unbothered by the interruption, took a step back and crossed his arms.
"Well?" Chrollo asked, "What will it be? Help us, or get in our way?"
Naya stopped to think. The Nexus dagger was one of the most powerful weapons in the world. Not only can it slice and pierce the hardest skin but it can also open portals. Swiping the dagger in the air, imbedding it with nen can enable the user to open portals from two places that are very far from another. This was the reason why Nayu's father ordered him to get it. His goal was to
Open a portal from the dark continent to the Known World so that transportation between the two places would be faster. If the Phantom Troupe really had the resources to steal it, working with them—temporarily—might be his best chance.
"I'll help," he said finally. "But on one condition: I get the dagger after the heist."
"That's bold of you to say" Machi snorted from her perch on the second floor. She'd been silently observing, her disapproving scowl evident as she flicked strands of her pink hair aside. "You think boss is just going to hand it over to you?"
Chrollo raised a hand to silence her, his expression neutral. "I actually will hand it over to
Him" he said, surprising the other members."Boss! Are you actually serious?!" The blond man named Shalnark piped up, his normal cheerful voice replaced with concern. "He is not even part of the troupe!"
"Which means that he is dispensable" The short emo boy called Feitan muttered.
Nayu's blue eyes darted to Feitan with a smirk. In a spilt of a second he appeared behind Feitan as he whispered in his ear but was still audible to the others. "Careful emo boy, You might not want to test how dispensable I really am. I can easily kill you if I wanted to and you know that"
Nayu's aura expanded, covering the whole room with his blood lust. The others shivered at the raw power that they were experiencing.
Feitan eyes narrowed, unable to move from the aura that he was feeling. In the next moment Chrollo intervened "Enough, Nayu will be assisting us and that is final. No more bickering like children, we have a mission so let's go."
"Yes Boss" the members uttered. They had no choice, it was their boss's orders after all."
The Phantom Troupe, despite their differences, moved as one under Chrollo's command. Just
like the legs of the spider following the orders of the head. The tension lingered in the air like static electricity as Nayu let his aura recede, a small, satisfied smile playing on his lips. Feitan glared but didn't retaliate, recognizing the strength Nayu had just displayed.
