I arrived at the camp parking lot after about 2 hours and got out of the car to grab my stuff
"come on josh" my mother said walking to the check in. The lady there looked nice but I wasn't so trusting yet
"hello young sir what's your name?" the desk lady said smiling "josh." I said quietly getting more scared the longer I stood here. She seemed not fased by my attitude "what are you here for josh" I looked down not wanting to tell my shameful secret to more people but my mom answered
"he thinks he's gay" the lady checked for my name on her paper and checked me off
"okay josh go right on inside and meet with the second camp leader to get your room number and key" I turned to my mom and attempted to say bye but she walked away before I could. I put my head down and walked to the 2nd camp person. There are so many people it made me want to throw up but instead I put my head up high and got in line
Being fake is better than showing people who you don't know the real you.
"hello first and last name?" the lady said with a smile on her face
"um Josh Peters.." She searched her book for my name on the paper and as I waited some kid behind me pushed me. I turned around and saw a guy around 6'0 tall, kind of muscular and had brown eyes and short brown hair "can I help you?" I ask him
"yeah you can hurry the fuck up your taking forever" he said back not caring about how rude he is but instead of yelling back I turned back around and the lady gave me my key with my room number on it and told me to go left to auditorium.
I took a spot in the back right of the auditorium because there were hardly any seats. I put my head down and felt someone sit beside me, I looked over and saw that rude boy from earlier he looked at me probably feeling me staring at him and I quickly looked back down. His eyes were so beautiful and when he looked into my eyes my heart sped up and it felt like fireworks
"Hey plaid shirt why were you looking at me?" was he talking to me? Yep I'm the only one wearing plaid in this row. I put my head up and looked at him straight in the eyes like I was outgoing "well you sat down and shook my chair with your fat ass so I wanted to see who was sitting there" I looked straight ahead and knew he was probably mad
"ha nice insult jackass" he said in a sarcastic tone I looked back at him "who said I was insulting you? Fat ass is a nice ass" I responded with a wink and proceeded to look forward again probably missing the disgust on his face, oh well!
A guy walked on stage and and tapped on his mike
"Hello fellow campers I'm Sean Downey, camp president, my job is to tell you all the cool and exciting things we will be doing here, helping you with your schedules, telling you the secret to this camp, and making sure you have fun!" some people clapped and cheered but I guess they have been here before I mean I don't understand why people would be so excited
"Okay so a slip is being passed around and you all must sign so I can tell you the secret and continue my speech" about 5 mins later I got passed the paper and signed without caring what it said. I passed it to cute but rude boy and he also signed without reading it and passed it on. Once the slip got back up to Sean he checked the number of people who signed and the number of people who entered the room to see if they matched up.
"Okay seems like everybody signed thank you all for that. Okay so the secret of this camp is this is a self appreciation camp. Some of you were told it was a bible camp that fixes attitudes or sexuality or gender but we all know some of those things can't be fixed so we help you embrace it! Now to all of you trouble makers who were sent here I want you to try and be nice to everyone because your gonna be seeing them all summer and it would suck if you cased drama and had a terrible summer. And to you LGBT+ plus people HAVE FUN DON'T WORRY ABOUT YOUR SEXUALITY OR GENDER IDENTIFICATION YOU ARE YOU AND THAT MAKES YOU, BE PROUD OF IT!" and with that he told us all to head over to the receptionist desk to pick up the rule book, schedules, maps, and help if you didn't know where to go.
I headed towards the desk but I ended up accidentally bumping into a girl; she had pretty blonde hair that was down to her lower back
"sorry" I exclaimed helping her pick up the papers she dropped
"its okay " she said grabbing her keys and the papers I collected "I'm Lane ,what's your name?" she asked getting up and extending her hand for me "Peters, Josh Peters nice to meet you" I responded as I grabbed her hand so she could help me up "hmmm josh peters huh? Well josh peters you are now my friend and I will help show you around and show you the basics" I laughed and agreed to her friendship.
We got out of the mess of a line with all of the things I needed and she directed me towards my dorm room "Okay josh dorms here are kind of small and you will be sharing it with one other person so try to make friends with them or its gonna be a difficult living situation" I nodded as she proceeded on talking she had a pretty voice so I didn't mind her talking. We got there and I entered using my key I saw my luggage was already in here and I was most likely the first to arrive, yay, now I get to pick the bed!
I grabbed my first suitcase and threw it on the bed to the far right "okay so now I have to go get settled in but don't go anywhere because I will be back" she walked out and not even a minute later the guy from earlier walked in my luck. He gave me a weird look and picked up his suitcases "what are you doing in here?" I stared at him as if he was stupid but he wasn't looking so he didn't know
"well I guess I'm your dorm mate according to my key and room number" he stayed silent probably thinking of what to say "so why are you here like in this camp" he finally turned around to face me. I was thinking of what to tell him, the truth? Or a lie "what are you here for?" I countered back the question because if he's gay then it will be easier for me to tell him "as the guy on the stage called me I guess I can say trouble maker" great just great "now you" I put on a look of not caring and said "personal reasons"
"oh okay that's cool I don't really care I was just trying to be polite" he responded
I stayed silent and laid on my bed for a bit
I'm not planning on being friends with him not even acquaintances so why does he need to know?
