───── ❛ the faith within the fall ❜
THERE'S NOTHING LIKE the historic death of a god to put a dampener on an already gloomy quest, am I right?Following the lead of Rachel once again, the group finally got themselves the hell out of the Labyrinth once and for all, resurfacing in central New York.
From there they split ways with their mortal friend (well...mortal accomplice) and headed back to Camp Half-Blood via the transport of the ever reliable Blackjack and friends pegasus express.
The second they touched ground at camp, it was all units go, full force. Chiron had met them when they landed and gotten all of the information from their quest in about ten minutes tops.
From there, there wasn't any letting up. It was the biggest military operation Camp Half-Blood had had in centuries, maybe even the biggest ever.
Every camper was dressed in battle armor at the forest clearing, like they might've been for a game of capture the flag. Except this time, they were defending the camp and not a flag— their lives, not their pride.
The Hephaestus cabin set up traps all around the entrance to the Labyrinth— pots full of Greek fire, razor wire, rows of sharpened sticks to deflect any charges.
In the whirlwind of it all, Laurie had still yet to see Alec, and the fact made her feel uneasy.
A lot had happened since they last saw each other. A lot was about to happen, the minute the dam broke and the monsters started flooding the woods in waves.
She could only assume he was his brother's right-hand man, as Beckendorf was manning two gigantic catapults that were aimed at Zeus's fist.
The Ares cabin was on the front line under the guidance of Clarisse, the children of Hermes and Apollo scattered in the woods with bows at the ready behind them. Even the dryads wielded weapons of bark and vines, ready to fight with all they had to offer.
Cabin Six headed up the command tent and directing operations, Argus guarding the door that contained Annabeth, Marjorie, and a handful of other Athena kids.
It was a good setup. But it wasn't quite good enough.
Laurie stood at the opposite end of the Ares flank as Clarisse, right at the front. When the fighting began, she wanted to be there, consequences be damned.
These weren't just enemies of the camp, they were enemies of her own. Monsters she'd had to fight day in and day out. Demigods who'd watched and taunted her. Serpents whose heads she couldn't strike beneath her heel and giants she could never face. This was personal.
