Companion Song: Apocalypse by Cigarettes After Sex
By Monday morning I still couldn't shake the experience at the club. Cassie was a real ride or die friend. While we left the club, she cursed Patrick out for his teammate being such an asshole.
Over the weekend, I had second thoughts about moving to a big city. I mean this would never have happened at home. I was in school with the same 100 people for twelve years. I had to shake the thought out of my mind and hope that the first day of classes would reassure me.
I try to pick out an outfit for the first day that doesn't tip off that I'm not from here. I land on a pair of cargo pants and a cute crop top with some sneakers.
My first class was amazing. It was English and everyone was so smart. We talked about the structure of books and the motivation behind the author's words. Next up was my first business elective.
I sit in the back, a little scared of sitting in the front of a packed lecture hall. There are all types of people in this class. Some look my age, others look way older.
Class is halfway through when I hear the doors open. I can't help but look back and see who is about to walk in this late.
When I see the guy walk in I immediately recognize him from the club. He is tall and his tattoos are peeking through the collar of his hoodie. He looks a lot younger when he is in sweats.
My leg starts tapping when I realize that the closest empty seat is on my right. He heads straight for me and sits down. I notice he has no backpack as he places his tattooed hands on his lap.
Everyone in my last class introduced themselves to their neighbor, so I figured I should probably tell him my name.
"Hi, I'm R-"
He looks down at me with a cold stare that reveals nothing and it causes me to trip over my words. At this point, I'm convinced I actually forgot my own name.
"Yes?" he says waiting on me to spit it out
"Rose, I'm Rose." I say with a weak smile
"Yeah" he says looking back at the front
I sense a slight accent, but I haven't heard enough to place where he might be from.
Still waiting on him to introduce himself I turn back to the professor and start taking notes on the syllabus.
He lets out a light chuckle, which I can only assume is directed at me
"No one takes notes on the syllabus, it's like a billboard saying that you're a freshman." he says still not looking at me
"Oh, I didn't-" I lose my words again, bouncing my leg. I don't know why he makes me so nervous. Maybe it's the fact that he hasn't even acknowledged that he knocked someone out less than 48 hours ago.
After a grand total of ten minutes he rolls his eyes like this was a waste of time and heads out the door.
The rest of my classes went well. I made sure to not take notes on the syllabus because Mr. Mysterious told me not to. I can't tell if this is just intrigue or attraction, but I've never felt anything like it. My body was buzzing when he sat next to me. I could smell his deep cologne and maturity dripping off of his body.
When I get back to my dorm, Cassie is laying on her bed with airpods in. She pops up with excitement when I walk up to her.
"Guess who I'm seeing tonight?" she says excitedly
"Uhm Patrick?"
"God no, that was so two days ago. I met this freshman guy in my class and we're getting dinner later."
Jesus this girl moves on fast.
"Do you mind if I don't go to the dining hall with you tonight?" she says
"Not at all babe. Go get some." I wink
The rest of my night is spent grabbing dinner to-go and reviewing the materials for my second day of classes. And thinking about Mr. Mysterious, of course.
