Companion Song: Doo Wop by Ms. Lauryn Hill

Before I can even get the door to my dorm fully open, Cassie is bounding up to me with her curly blonde hair bouncing in the air.

"Oh my God!! Rose, it's so nice to finally meet you in person!" she screams while giving me a tight embrace.

I hug her back as we squeal for what feels like a lifetime.

"Ok, I already have our night planned."

I raise an eyebrow at her. We've been here less than 24 hours and she already has big plans. This is going to be an interesting year.

"Uh oh, what does that mean?" I say reluctantly

"You didn't think I could let the soccer team move all our stuff in and not get any intel did you?"

I smile at her and she gives me the details of her day and our plan for the night. Apparently, we are going to a party thrown by the boys soccer team with the girls across the hall.

We put on some pregame music and I try to make myself look as unsweaty and untired as I can, which proves itself to be a challenge.

I end up with my hair in a bun with some curls sticking out of the sides, a black tank top and some wide leg jeans.

Looking in the mirror I realize this is just enough cleavage to have a fun night.

The clock hits 10 and the pitter patter of repeated knocks rings on our door.

"What is up, party people!" screams a tall and thin girl with long jet black hair.

"I'm Piper, you must be Rose. Cassie was telling us all about you." she says with a bottle of Tito's in hand

"Yeah, haha. It's nice to meet you" I say

"And I'm Genevieve, but everyone just calls me Jen" says another black haired girl behind Piper.

We throw back a few shots of Tito's, chasing with the two-liter of Sprite my mom insisted was a college necessity. Who knew she'd be so right.

After the pregame, we head through the city to a tall apartment building one block away from Hastings and I can hear the thump of music from the sidewalk. I look up at the building and think, this is it, I am officially an NYU girl.

We giggle and head up the stairs to the apartment that Cassie directs us to. As we walk in I see older girls talking to soccer players and eyeing us as we head toward the kitchen. The bonfires back home did not prepare me for college parties.

I recognize one of the guys pouring drinks. He was that goofball from earlier, Patrick I think. I see Cassie taking interest.

She walks right up to him "I'll have whatever you're having" she says with a sly smirk

He looks her up and down, looking pleased and pours her a drink

"You got it. I haven't seen you around here before, and trust me I'd remember."

Piper, Jen, and I laugh and head towards the big crowd in the living room. We dance until we can't breathe.

Some boys approach us throughout the night and Piper and Jen take interest. I don't know what it is exactly, but something about those boys just doesn't get me excited. Maybe it's just that they're boys and I need something different.

I need a man.
