She woke up being tapped on the shoulder by someone and got startled by it, almost jumping.
"Are you alive there, comrade?" he asked.
His hair was white, his skin following a similar fashion and his eyes were a golden color, seemingly concerned. He was wearing leather and had a knife on his side plus a belt with a bag which was where her head reached, he seemed to be less old then her father or maid. He reached for the bag and pulled out some food which Akazukin accepted without hesitation.
"Are you headed towards the city? I was going to deliver a small package there, but you shouldn't be alone out here. I've heard there have recently been bandits out here raiding cargo," he said as if she knew what he meant by "raiding cargo".
"Yes, I'm headed to the city I got lost on the way there. My grandma lives near the beach and she's sick right now, so I got cookies for her," she answered.
She had heard of this happening in one of the first stories the maid read for her, though now she couldn't remember the name of it.
"The name's Okami and yours?" he asked.
"Akazukin," she said.
"Well then Akazukin, let's head out," he exclaimed.
He started walking with a warm smile on his face with Akazukin soon following after him. The fields were long and covered a large amount of terrain and they seemed to pass by quickly or maybe it was because Okami walked so quickly that she was almost running to keep up with him.
Okami suddenly stopped and Akazukin bumped into him from behind, there were noises becoming louder. A clip, clop
She turned around and saw a vehicle, a wagon being pulled by something she'd never seen before... no she had seen it before. It was called a horse and in the books the maid had shown her princes used them to carry princesses onto the horizon to get married and live happily ever after. It was even bigger up close, even taller than Okami, it passed by them in less than a minute, but she was still amazed by it.
"If we hitch a ride we can make it to the city in a day instead of two. Come on," he whispered.
He ran to the wagon without making much noise and climbed on.
"Shouldn't we ask the man on the horse before we do so?" she asked as she got on.
"What if he says no? Then we'd have to walk for more time." he answered.
"Isn't it bad to do things without permission? Bad things are what villains do." she said.
"Well, that man is a villain to us, and we can't get caught by him while we hitch a ride," he clarified.
"But shouldn't we defeat the villain?" she asked confused.
"Not all villains should be defeated," he said.
She stayed silent at that.
