The courtroom remained silent as I delivered my closing words, each one carrying the weight of the truth I had meticulously presented. After a brief pause, I watched the judge, who had been listening intently, turn to the bench, reviewing the evidence once more.
A moment later, the judge's voice broke the stillness.
"Having carefully considered the evidence presented by both parties and after due deliberation, the court finds Mr. Aman Sharma guilty of the charges brought against him. It is clear that the defendant abused his wife and made threats against her family, which is not only a violation of trust but also a blatant disregard for the sanctity of marriage and family."
I exhaled quietly, a surge of relief rushing through me. The justice my client so desperately needed was now within reach.
"Mr. Sharma," the judge continued, "you are hereby sentenced to [.
...............], and restitution is to be paid to the victim as compensation for the emotional and psychological damages caused. Furthermore, a protection order is granted, ensuring that the defendant has no contact with the victim or her family."[Note:- I am not including any punishments, fines, or prison sentences, as I don't have sufficient knowledge on the subject and do not want to provide incorrect information.]
My client, who had been sitting in the witness stand, looked to the floor in a quiet mixture of relief and exhaustion. She had endured so much, and now, the court had affirmed that her suffering had not been in vain. Her parents, too, nodded silently, grateful that justice had prevailed.
I stood up, my heart swelling with both pride and compassion for my client, knowing that the fight had not been in vain. The courtroom, once tense and heavy with uncertainty, now seemed lighter. The victory wasn't just mine-it was hers, and it was a testament to the courage of the victim and the witnesses who had come forward to tell the truth.
With the gavel's final strike, the judge concluded the hearing.
"The case is closed."
And as the courtroom emptied, I exchanged a quiet nod with my client, her eyes filled with gratitude. Without thinking further I stepped towards her and hugged her tightly. The road ahead would still be challenging for her, but today, she had won the battle. Justice had been served.
"You have a long way to go, don't look back, just move forward," I told her with a sense of pride in my heart, and she smiled and nodded in response.
With that, I stepped out of the courtroom, feeling elated, but my happiness was short-lived when I spotted Aarav waiting outside, leaning against his car.
"Congratulations, wife," he greeted me as I reached the stairs. "You don't even know if I won or lost," I replied, scanning the area for my driver.
"The smile on your face tells me you won," he said confidently. "Stop looking around. I sent your driver home. You're coming with me," he added, and I stared at him, incredulous.
"I'm not going anywhere with you. I promised my friend I'd meet her," I retorted.
"I can take you there," he suggested, but I rolled my eyes.
"Fine, just drop me there," I said, conceding.
"I'm not your chauffeur, Vakeel Sahiba," he replied, crossing his arms.
"Yeah, but you certainly look like one, dressed in that three-piece suit and those sunglasses," I shot back.
"Get in," he said, walking to the other side and sitting in his seat. I opened the door and got in, settling into my spot.
