The next day dawned in Tempest with a chill wind whispering through the towering trees. The vibrant greenery of the forest surrounding Rimuru's Palace was kissed by the early morning frost. The pale light of the rising sun filtered through the thick foliage, casting long, delicate shadows on the ground. Inside Rimuru's office, the air was heavy with quiet anticipation. The events of the previous day had unsettled her more than she cared to admit.Rimuru leaned against the large window of her office, her eyes lost in thought as she watched the world outside. Her thoughts kept drifting back to Guy Crimson and the strange conversation they'd shared. She had always prided herself on being in control—of her kingdom, her people, and herself. But now, in the stillness of the morning, she couldn't shake the feeling that something had shifted.
What is it that he really wants? Rimuru thought, furrowing her brow. What does he see in me?
The question lingered in her mind, unanswered. She had always known Guy Crimson as a figure of power and chaos. His reputation as one of the most unpredictable Demon Lords preceded him, and their previous encounters had always been filled with a certain tension. But yesterday had been different. There had been a depth to their conversation, something she hadn't expected. It felt like a quiet invitation, a challenge to see beyond her role as a leader and acknowledge her own desires, her own humanity.
As the leader of Tempest, Rimuru had never allowed herself the luxury of vulnerability. Her duties always came first, and her people relied on her strength and wisdom. But now... now she couldn't ignore the stirring of something deep within her—a yearning she hadn't allowed herself to recognize until now.
She had always been content, even happy, with the path she had chosen for herself. But Guy's words, his presence... they made her question whether she had been living a life half-lived. Was she really content, or had she simply been too focused on her responsibilities to see the world outside her throne room?
Sighing softly, Rimuru turned away from the window, her mind racing. She had a kingdom to run, people to lead, and problems to solve. There was no time to entertain such distractions. And yet, the thought of Guy Crimson and what he had said to her continued to linger.
Just then, the door to her office opened, and Shuna stepped inside, her usual serene expression on her face.
"Rimuru-sama," Shuna greeted with a small bow. "There is a request for a meeting. The representatives from the Dwarf Kingdom have arrived."
Rimuru nodded, pushing aside her personal thoughts. Duty first. She had always known how to keep her focus when the need arose. "Thank you, Shuna. Please show them in."
As the meeting began, Rimuru did her best to immerse herself in the negotiations. The Dwarf Kingdom had come to discuss trade agreements, specifically regarding the materials Tempest would need for further expansion. There were plans for a new set of fortifications along the borders, and the Dwarves were the best craftsmen in the land. The discussions were important, and Rimuru couldn't afford to let herself be distracted by anything else.
Yet, even as she spoke to the representatives and signed the necessary agreements, Rimuru's mind kept returning to Guy. He was still fresh in her thoughts, his words echoing in the back of her mind. It was as if he had left an indelible mark on her, one that she couldn't simply erase or ignore.
The meeting lasted longer than expected, but finally, as the last of the paperwork was signed, Rimuru dismissed the representatives, letting out a quiet breath of relief. She leaned back in her chair, her fingers tapping lightly on the desk.
Shuna entered the room once more, her eyes glancing at Rimuru with a mix of concern and curiosity. "Rimuru-sama, is everything alright? You seem... distracted."
Rimuru gave a small smile, though it didn't quite reach her eyes. "I'm fine, Shuna. Just a lot on my mind."
Shuna seemed unconvinced but didn't press the issue. "If you need anything, please don't hesitate to let me know."
"Thank you, Shuna," Rimuru replied, appreciating the demoness's concern. As the door closed behind Shuna, Rimuru sat in silence for a long moment. Her thoughts wandered once again to Guy, and the peculiar fire that had ignited within her the day before.
Later that evening, after a long day of managing Tempest's affairs, Rimuru found herself standing at the balcony of her palace, looking out over the sprawling city below. The lights of the various homes and buildings flickered like stars in the distance, a testament to the thriving kingdom she had built. Tempest was her pride, her heart—and yet, it felt like something was missing.
As she gazed at the stars above, she couldn't help but remember Guy's words: I'm asking you to remember that you deserve more than the weight of those duties alone. Let someone in.
The wind rustled gently through her hair as Rimuru closed her eyes, letting the cool breeze wash over her. She had always prided herself on her independence, her ability to shoulder the responsibilities of ruling. But what if... what if there was more to life than simply ruling and protecting? What if she could allow herself to be more than just the Demon Lord of Tempest?
The thought lingered, and Rimuru felt a flicker of something deep within her chest—something warm and unfamiliar, like the glow of a flame slowly beginning to kindle. It wasn't something she could ignore. She couldn't deny that a part of her, a part she had long buried beneath her duties, was curious. Curious about Guy, curious about what he had to offer, curious about the path he had suggested she take.
As if on cue, a sharp knock echoed from the door leading into the balcony. Rimuru turned her head, her heartbeat quickening slightly as she recognized the source of the knock.
"Rimuru," came the familiar voice from the other side of the door. "It's Guy."
Rimuru's breath caught in her throat. She had been expecting him, or perhaps, hoping for it. With a wave of her hand, she gestured for the door to open.
Guy Crimson stepped onto the balcony, his presence as imposing as always. His crimson cloak fluttered behind him like a flame caught in the wind, and his eyes glowed with an intensity that always left Rimuru with a strange mix of intrigue and caution.
"Guy," Rimuru said, her voice steady, though her heart raced. "To what do I owe this visit?"
"I thought you might want to talk," Guy replied with a smirk, his gaze never leaving hers. "You've been distant since yesterday. Is something on your mind?"
Rimuru hesitated for a moment, her fingers lightly gripping the railing of the balcony. She could feel the pull of his presence, the magnetic force that seemed to draw her in. "I've been thinking..." she began slowly, unsure of how to phrase the thoughts swirling in her head. "About what you said. About... my needs."
Guy raised an eyebrow, his smirk softening into something more genuine. "I'm glad to hear that," he said, stepping closer. "You deserve to think about yourself, Rimuru. It's not just about Tempest. It's about you. What do you want?"
Rimuru's breath hitched as she finally allowed herself to speak the words that had been growing inside her, buried beneath her duties. "I don't know." Her voice faltered slightly, but she didn't look away from Guy's piercing gaze. "I've always known what everyone else needed. But when it comes to what I want..."
Guy stepped closer still, his presence engulfing her. "It's okay to not have all the answers, Rimuru. It's okay to explore. You've spent so long taking care of everyone else. Maybe it's time you let someone else take care of you."
Rimuru's heart fluttered at his words, the vulnerability in them resonating deep within her. For the first time in a long while, she felt like she wasn't alone in her struggles. And as Guy's warm hand reached out, gently brushing against hers, she felt a spark—something undeniable, something real.
Without a word, Rimuru reached out, taking his hand. The flame within her flared brighter, filling the space between them with warmth.
As the first embers of something more began to burn, Rimuru knew that this was only the beginning.
