Chapter 12

Ian awoke the following morning to find his fiancé, Cayden, beside him.

Ian: "Cayden, dear; it is time to rise."

Cayden stirred and recognized his partner, Ian.

Ian: "Good morning, handsome."

Cayden: "Good morning."

Ian: "Please ensure you have everything you require, as we will not be returning here afterward."

Cayden: "Why is that?"

Ian: "We are embarking on a camping trip following your football game."

Cayden nodded in understanding.

Ian: "Why not get up? You only need some pants, and a change of clothes."

Cayden then rose but quickly excused himself to vomit, feeling unwell.

Once dressed, Ian gathered his pants and a change of clothes, then prepared his bag while waiting for Cayden to finish getting ready.

Cayden eventually emerged, fully prepared.

The couple proceeded to the ultrasound clinic.

Claire: "Hello, gentlemen. How are you today?"

Ian: "We are well, thank you."

Claire: "So, you are here for an ultrasound, correct?"

Ian: "That is correct."

Claire: "When did the pregnancy begin?"

Ian: "Approximately one day ago."

Claire: "Okay, and what is your name, young man?"

Cayden: "Cayden Richards."

Claire: "And you, sir?"

Ian: "I am Ian Gunters."

Claire: "And your relationship to Cayden?"

Ian: "I am his boyfriend; Cayden is my fiancé."

Claire: "How lovely! Congratulations."

Ian: "Thank you."

Claire: "Cayden, if you would like to hop onto the table, we can begin."

Cayden promptly climbed onto the examination table.

Claire: "Could you please lift your shirt for me?"

Cayden complied by lifting his shirt.

Claire: "Alright, this may feel a bit cold; it is a cooling gel."

Claire applied the cold gel to Cayden's abdomen.

Claire: "Now, what we see here is a small sac."

Claire: The structure referred to as a gestational sac contains the developing embryo. As gestation progresses, the formation of the spine, heart, and spinal cord will commence. You may return for a comprehensive ultrasound scan between 6 to 9 weeks, during which you will have the opportunity to visualize your embryo for the first time. At this early stage, the embryo is approximately the size of a poppy seed, so we will not be able to observe any significant details. Overall, everything appears to be progressing well.

Cayden and Ian respond with smiles.

Claire: Very well, gentlemen, have a wonderful day.

Ian: You as well.

Cayden and Ian exit the ultrasound clinic and proceed to school.

Later, after school, Cayden is in the locker room preparing for the game, while Ian arrives to watch him play. Ian feels a sense of nervous anticipation. During the game, an opponent delivers a rough hit to Cayden, leaving Ian in a state of shock.

Coach: Cayden, are you alright?

Cayden remains silent. The trainer approaches to assist him. Ian makes his way from the bleachers to Cayden's side.

Ian: Cayden, are you okay?

Cody: There are no signs of a concussion; he has a bloody nose and a minor headache.

Ian nods in acknowledgment.

Ian: Are you alright?

Cayden: No, I have a bloody nose, a severe headache, and a cramping stomachache.

Ian: It will be alright. Are you cleared to return to the game, if that is your choice?

Cody and Ian exchange glances with Cayden.

They finish the game and head off to the campsite
