Argus continues to drive down the streets of New York city, the eight of us completely unaware of where he is taking us. We pass several parks and residential buildings. Pedestrians walk around us, crossing the crowded streets, trying to push pass others. Horns honk in the distance and the occasional plane soars overhead.
After another 30 minutes, that feel like hours, the van makes a sharp turn, Percy looks up suddenly. "Wait a minute! We're heading towards our apartment guys!" And, by 'our apartment' he meant Sally and Paul's apartment. Percy stays there through the school year most of the time just because camp is further away from Goode, and Paul works there too.
Hazel, Piper, Frank, Leo, Nico, and Jason all stay in their respective cabins at Camp Halfblood at the moment. When my dad had approved me moving to New York for the year to work on Olympus I had just assumed I would be living at camp. Even though Sally and Paul had known I was coming, we hadn't discussed living arrangements. I mean, I hadn't been planning on living with them...
The other six (not including me and Percy who had already noticed our drive to the Jackson's apartment) sit up to look out the windows of the van.
Argus pulls the van up to the front of the building and opens the door. All of us pile out of the car. I was honestly a little bit curious just because I didn't know exactly why we were here. There was no point in getting Argus to give us information, he didn't speak because of all the eyeballs that were covering his body.
A few people standing in the front lobby turn to look at us, following our movements with questioning eyes. I mean we are a pretty large group of teenagers. Percy leads us up the elevator and onto the 12th floor. Argus is following behind us. When we round a couple corners in the hallway, we reach the apartment. Percy takes out his key and turns the handle to allow us access. The moment I step into the threshold, I'm overwhelmed by the familiar smells of chocolate chip cookies and the beach. Within moments Sally appears looking very excited.
"Annabeth! Oh it's so good to see you! I was so excited to hear you were coming back to live here," she pauses to look at Percy, "Did you surprise him?" I laugh and look at Percy who rolls his eyes but smiles a little bit.
"Yes. I'd like to say he was thoroughly surprised." Sally grins, but then she pauses and opens her mouth to say something more.
"So, you seem a little confused as to why you are here." I nodded. I had a pretty good idea. My luggage was the only luggage brought into the apartment building. I had figured that Sally and Paul had talked with Chiron and my Dad and had agreed to let me stay in their apartment with them instead of at camp. I was right.
Hazel, Frank, Jason, Leo, Piper, and Nico were still staying at camp halfblood.
After 20 more minutes of casual discussion between sally and the rest of the demigods standing in her living room, Argus herded them out and filed them into the van on their way to camp, I said goodbye and told them that I would see them tomorrow.
Soon, it was just me, Percy, and Sally left in the apartment. I was so excited! Taking out all issues with Blake and Sabrina, my day had been pretty amazing. I was finally going to school with my best friends and my boyfriend and I was living with Sally and Paul. It was fantastic.
"Alright. Now that this is all settled, we should move your bags into Percy's room." I raised my eyebrows in question. Percy's room? Sally say the expression on my face and sighed a little, "I'm allowing you to stay with Percy. But," She gave us both a pointed look, "And I know you two aren't like this, but if something happens between you-"
"Mom! Gah stop okay! Thank you we got it! Nothing is going to happen!!" I could feel the color rushing to my face. I didn't know what to do or where to look. Percy wasn't doing much better. He was the color of a tomato. This may have been the most awkward conversation I have ever been a part in or experienced.
Sally smiled now and laughed lightly, "Okay okay, I'm sorry I'm done. Now, Let's move your stuff in Annabeth."
-X-
Sunlight was streaming through the green curtains above Percy's bed, blinding my eyes. The smell of chocolate chip pancakes waft through the cracks in the wooden door leading out of the room. Sally must be making a special breakfast.
I blink my eyes and sit up slowly, still slightly asleep. Percy is curled up on the other side of the bed... far on the other side of the bed. Drool was running slowly trailing down his cheek and landing on his pillow.
Last night was a great night. Especially because I was finally in New York with Percy and my friends. Percy and I finished our assignments and homework (after bribing Percy) then we ate dinner and watched a movie. Really simple and casual really, but I enjoyed it.
I pull my feet over the bed so they are resting on the floor, then I stand and head into his bathroom to change. I pull on a pair of dark washed skinny jeans and a plain maroon v-neck. Pulling my hair into a ponytail (after failing several times to tame my curly hair) I leave the bathroom. Percy is still sleeping. We have to be leaving in less than 20 minutes.
I walk quietly over to the other side of the bed then I raise two fingers and push them against his achilles 'heel'. He no longer has his 'armor' but he is still sensitive in the area on the small of his back.
The second my cold fingers make contact with his back, he snaps his eyes open and flips around. It's a shame though that he was on the edge of the bed, because when he flipped around on the mattress, his body falls flat on the floor.
"OOOOOH! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!" I immediately start laughing. I'm laughing so hard my eyes start to water. Percy is definitely awake and looks pained and confused at the same time. The look on his face makes me laugh even harder. By now, i'm practically rolling on the floor with silent laughter. I can hear Percy chuckle too, probably now understanding what had just taken place.
"You're gonna regret that Wise -Girl." Percy gets up and lunges towards me. I was too slow to dodge him completely and he ends up grabbing a handful of fabric from my shirt and pulling me down towards the floor again. We are both laughing hysterically (I don't even know why anymore), and the noise must have alarmed Sally, who was making breakfast, because she bursts the door open.
The minute her eyes land on the two of us, losing our minds on the floor she squints her eyes and frowns.
"Oh. I'm sorry guys I heard a loud bang and... laughing... or screaming." Sally pauses to look at us again. "But, I'm glad you two are up. Breakfast is ready and you have to leave in fifteen minutes." She leaves the room and Percy gives me a hand up, still smiling.
"We better get going, or else Paul is going to leave without us."
