The morning light crept through the blinds, casting soft, warm stripes across the dorm room. It was quieter than usual—no sounds of students rushing to class, no distant hum of campus life. Monday had arrived, but the typical routine had been replaced by a rare staff development day, leaving the students with a free schedule.

Silas stirred first, his amber eyes blinking open slowly. The warmth at his side reminded him of who was there before his mind fully woke. Kael was curled against him, his head just below Silas's chin, his breathing soft and steady.

Silas smiled to himself, the peacefulness of the moment wrapping around him like a blanket. He shifted slightly, careful not to wake Kael, but the movement was enough to make the fox stir.

Kael let out a small hum, his blue eyes fluttering open and looking up at Silas groggily. "Morning," he murmured, his voice low and thick with sleep.

"Morning," Silas replied softly.

Kael didn't move away like he normally might have when he first woke up. Instead, he stayed pressed against Silas, the tension he so often carried nowhere to be found. The fox's tail twitched lightly under the covers, a signal that his mind was awake even if his body wasn't ready to follow suit.

"Guess there's no rush today," Kael muttered, his voice still drowsy.

"Nope," Silas said, his arm loosely draped around Kael's waist. "No classes, no plans... just this."

Kael shifted slightly, his ears flicking as he tested the boundaries of their closeness. Slowly, he moved closer, resting his head against Silas's chest. When Silas didn't flinch or pull away, Kael took it a step further, sliding an arm across Silas's middle and hesitating there.

Silas noticed the uncertainty and gave a soft chuckle, his hand moving to rest on Kael's back. "You don't have to hold back," he murmured.

Kael glanced up, his blue eyes searching Silas's face for any sign of hesitation. "You sure?" he asked quietly.

"Positive," Silas said, his voice steady. Then, without waiting for Kael to second-guess himself, Silas shifted slightly, pulling Kael closer so their bodies fit together more snugly under the covers.

Kael let out a breath he hadn't realized he was holding, his cheek pressing against Silas's chest. "This is... nice," he admitted softly, his voice barely above a whisper.

"It is," Silas agreed, his fingers idly tracing small patterns against Kael's back. "I could get used to this."

Kael's ears flicked at that, his tail curling slightly under the blanket. "Me too," he said, his tone carrying the weight of something deeper than the moment.

They stayed like that, wrapped in each other's warmth and the quiet of the morning. Outside, the world continued, but inside their small dorm room, it felt as if time had slowed, giving them a chance to simply be.

For once, there was no overthinking, no fear of pushing too far. Just the soft rise and fall of their breathing, the steady rhythm of their hearts, and the unspoken understanding that they didn't need to let go anytime soon.

Kael's breathing slowed, steady against Silas's chest, but his fingers brushed lightly over Silas's collarbone as if testing the waters. Silas's heart raced, the warmth of Kael's body pressed so close making it hard to think.

Kael tilted his head up, their faces mere inches apart again, and this time it was Silas who leaned in, closing the distance between them. The kiss started as soft and gentle as before, but there was something new beneath it—a quiet intensity building with every passing second.
