"It's hard to explain right now." She answered before attempting to walk past me, but I wouldn't let her. "Babe, I have to get back to work."
"Just stay here with me for just a little while longer...I don't want to forget this." I said with a small smile. "I don't want you to ever think that I won't do everything in my power to make this work, because I don't know what I would do if you ever stopped being around me."
"I'm sure that you'll be just fine." She said, but I could see the worry behind her beautiful hazel eyes.
"Is there something on your mind that you aren't telling me?" I asked hoping that she would open up to me again.
"Nothing that can't wait until later." She answered before pushing past me and walked into the bar.
I hated that she wouldn't talk to me about it now, but then again it took her months to even talk to me to begin with...so I was used to waiting for her.
I entered the bar again and took my place...my dad's favorite stool and ordered a beer from my sister.
"Chris, have you talked to Kat yet?" Felicia asked as she opened a bottle and placed it on the wooden bar top in front of me.
"I tried, but she said that she needed to get back to work." I answered before taking a swig. "Did she say something to you?"
"Maybe you should wait for her to tell you." She said before walking away from me.
What happened while I was gone?
Why wouldn't Kat look at me? Why was my sister avoiding my question?
I wanted to figure this out before I had to face her tonight, so I would know what to expect...but something was telling me that that wouldn't be that easy.
Earlier today I couldn't get her to go not talk to me, but now she was trying to do everything to avoid me.
"I wouldn't worry too much about Kat, Christian...after all she's always been a tease." John said with a small laugh.
I had to resist the urge to punch him in his old smug face, because I didn't want to cause a scene in my bar.
"You're just and that she turned you down twice." Herman said before polishing off his beer.
"Whatever." John dismissed. "She's tainted goods anyways."
"What makes you say that?" I asked still pissed from his earlier comment.
"Easy there Christian, but everyone here knows what Katerina did before she worked here." He tried to defend. "She was a call girl." He went on, but I wanted him to just shut the fuck up. "So who knows what kind of STDs she has."
"Well I can tell you that I am perfectly clean and I wasn't always that kind of call girl." Katerina defended as she handed Herman another beer. "If I was then I wouldn't be working here."
"Then what did you do?" I asked hoping that she would open up.
"I was basically a sugar baby than a call girl, but sometimes the guys would want a date for a wedding, reunion, or just someone to talk to." She answered with a small laugh. "Maybe you should have asked me about it before you jump to conclusions."
"I didn't believe him...Kat, I was about to stand up for you, but you beat me to it."
"I don't need you to stand up for me...we aren't together, so there is no need for you to do anything for me." She said before leaving the bar again to deliver a couple of drinks.
That stung...I know we never said what we were, but I was hopeful that she would want me to be hers.
I thought back to everything that happened between us that day, trying to find out if there was anything that I did to make her think otherwise.
