"but on a wednesday in a cafe, i watched it begin again." this has nothing to do with the story i just love taylor swift.
As I walked into the small cafe I was met with the smell of freshly brewed coffee, and newly baked pastries. I could see Eleanor sitting in a corner booth smiling at me. I walked over and joined her in the booth.
"I'm so glad you could make it! Isn't this place adorable?" She said as she handed me a cup of tea. I graciously accepted it and took a sip.
"What the fuck is this?" I said with disgust. It tasted like how I imagined a bubble bath would.
"It's lavender tea with milk and three sugars." She responded. I watched as she shifted in her seat, obviously she had been hurt by my words.
"Oh El, I'm sorry, I'm such an asshole. I didn't mean to." I reached over and rubbed her arm trying to comfort her.
"It's fine. I guess it is kind of a wild combination to offer somebody."
"No, it's great!" I exclaimed before grabbing the cup and chugging down the bath water concoction. I tried to hide my disgust as I lowered the cup from my mouth. I must've failed because Eleanor started laughing as she reached over to wipe a drop of tea from my chin.
"Enough tea-talk, how do you think your audition went?" She said as she removed her hand from my face.
"Honestly? I have no fucking clue. Niall and Amelia seemed to just eat me up. Everything I did seemed to please them. Harry? Not so much." I said with a sigh.
"Same! Harry literally told me I looked like I got lost on my way to a rave." she said, pointing down at her Dr. Martens.
"Well, if it makes you feel any better, I love your shoes." I responded.
"You do? Thanks! My girlfriend got them for me for my birthday." She blushed.
"You're a lesbian?" I questioned.
"No, I'm completely straight but just so happen to like pussy." she said sarcastically. "I'm just messing with you, I'm so lesbian I can hardly see straight."
I laughed at that.
"Nice to meet you miss 'I like pussy'. I'm mister 'I like dick'. I said as I did a little bow.
"I'm smitten." She said as she attempted to curtsy from where she was sitting.
We spent three hours sitting in the cafe talking. Well Eleanor talked, I just sat and listened. After we said goodbye, I headed back to my apartment. When I reached my door, I grabbed the handle and pushed down. I never locked my door because the lock would get stuck and it would always end with me having to call Gary, the creepy handyman, to come let me inside. Apparently, Zayn hadn't been at the apartment often enough to realize this and when he left for his date he locked the door.
"Fuck me." I muttered as I headed towards the exit of my building. I went around the side of the complex and walked over to the fire escape. I lifted myself up onto the rusty metal and began to climb the ladder. Once I reached my window, I pushed it open and climbed inside. I know it's not safe to leave my door and window unlocked, especially in New York, but if it saved me from an interaction with Gary then it was definitely worth the risk.
I pulled off my shoes and mindlessly threw them to the side as I collapsed onto my bed. I reached into my back pocket and took out my phone. I laid there absentmindedly scrolling on Twitter when I was interrupted by a phone call. It was an unsaved number, and I assumed it was Eleanor because I had forgotten to save her contact.
"Hey El." I said as I picked up the phone.
"Who's El? Your girlfriend?" An Irish voice spoke.
"Oh, Hey Niall. I thought you were Eleanor."
"Eleanor? Calder? The brunette from today's audition?" Niall asked.
"Uh yeah. She kind of stole my number off the signup sheet. Weird. Anyways we're friends now, I guess."
"Friends, eh?" Niall said. I could practically hear his smirk.
"Yep, just two very gay friends."
"Oh! Harry's g-" his voice was then muffled. It sounded like someone had covered his mouth with their hand. "Anyways, I have big news." He seemed to ignore his previous comment.
"And?" I asked.
"Amelia, Harry, and I would be thrilled if you would be our Phantom!" Niall exclaimed.
"W-what?" I asked. I couldn't believe my ears. This was all I've ever wanted. I was going to be on Broadway. I was going to be a lead on Broadway!
"Well?" Amelia's voice chimed in through the phone, which led me to believe Harry must've been there too.
"Y-yes, oh my god yes!" I was beaming. I could feel tears begin to prickle my eyes.
"Great!" Niall exclaimed.
"You should be so proud of yourself!" Amelia said kindly.
I heard both Niall and Amelia grumble quietly and the sound of what I assumed to be a hand smacking someone's head.
"Fine, I'll say something." A low voice muttered. I waited expectantly, maybe this morning Harry was just having a bad day and that was the explanation for his attitude. Now, he would be in a much better mood, and he would tell me how excited he is to work with me and how he can't wait to begin rehearsal.
"Table read is next Monday at two." That was all he said. The line was then met with silence. I looked down at my phone to see the call had ended.
Okay so maybe it wasn't just a bad morning.
Five minutes later I got another call. I answered it and put it on speakerphone as I stared at the ceiling. I hadn't stopped smiling since I received the news. I just laid there staring at the ceiling picturing all the fun I'd have in rehearsal and on stage. My thoughts were interrupted by a shriek.
"Louis, I got it! I fucking got it! I'm going to play Christine!" Eleanor screamed.
"Oh." I responded glumly.
"Oh shit. Louis, I'm so sorry." She responded. I could tell she truly felt horrible.
"What are you sorry for? Sorry you have to act beside me?!" I laughed.
"You piece of shit! I thought you didn't get cast!" She yelled.
"We're going to be in 'The Phantom of the Opera'!" I squealed.
"Fuck yeah we are!" She responded.
I heard the sound of a door opening and closing through the phone.
"My girlfriend is here! I can't wait to tell her the news! Maybe I should act like I didn't get it just like you did." She sounded so happy.
"Maybe" I laughed.
"She's walking to our room; I gotta go. Bye!" She said in a hurry.
I threw my phone back down on my bed and continued to daydream about my future. My name in lights and posters with my face on it. I couldn't wipe the smile off my face. There was just one thing lingering in the back of my mind that I couldn't seem to shake. That one thing was Harry Styles.
