Klaus POV
I had just finished my shower, the towel around my neck soaking up the last drips of water as I walked back to the dorm. My thoughts were scattered-half on the upcoming mission Winter had assigned me, half on... other things.
When I reached the door, I raised a hand to knock, but before I could, it flew open, revealing Weiss on the other side. Her piercing blue eyes met mine for only a second before her voice lashed out.
Weiss: "I'm not going to the dance with you!"
I blinked, completely thrown off by the abruptness of her words.
Klaus: "Wow, I got shot down before I could even ask."
I said, recovering with a small chuckle. Her expression shifted instantly, her eyes widening and her cheeks flushing a soft pink. I couldn't help but smile. There was something endearing about seeing her so flustered, her usual composed demeanor cracking just a little.
Weiss: "I'm giving you one more chance."
She said quickly, crossing her arms as if to regain control of the situation. She's such a tsundere? I think that was term people used nowadays
For a moment, my chest felt lighter, a warmth spreading But then reality crashed back down, the mission looming in my mind. My smile faltered, and I rubbed the back of my neck awkwardly.
Klaus: "Sorry, Princess, but I'll have to pass. The mission with Atlas is on the same day. I'll be working alongside some Atlas militants in the mountains. It's a long-range sweep, likely Grimm-heavy. Not exactly the kind of place for a dance."
Without wasting any time standing there awkwardly, I put my dirty clothes in the laundry bag and went out. The moment the door shut behind me, I let out a breath I hadn't realized I was holding. My hands clenched at my sides, frustration bubbling beneath the surface.
Why did it have to be on the same day?
I cursed to myselfFew Days later
The team was in the dance hall, preparing for the event. Yang and Weiss were fully committed to their work while Ruby was in a slump as she wanted Blake to be with us too. We all did.
Ruby was startled by Weiss slamming her palms on the table she is at.
Weiss: (smiling) "I need you to pick a tablecloth."
Ruby: "Aren't they both the same?"
She replied, a bit confused at Weiss slides two squares over to Ruby, both seeming to be similar shades of white. Weiss sighed in frustration her shoulders tensing, and for a moment, her icy blue eyes flickered in my direction. It was subtle-just a brief glance-but there was something in that look, something that made my chest tighten.
Weiss: "Just pick one, Ruby. I don't have time for this."
But just as quickly as it happened, she turned away, brushing past Ruby with a haste. She hurried off, her posture stiff and hurried, like she couldn't get away fast enoughg. I exhaled, running a hand through my hair. This wasn't the first time it had happened.
For the past few days, we both had been avoiding each other-not openly, not in a way that anyone else would notice, but we felt it. The way her gaze would flicker past me like I wasn't even there. The way her voice grew clipped and formal if we had to exchange words.
