After crusing around for a while we finally reached the military Hangar. The hangar was massive, its high ceilings and cold, metallic walls giving it an imposing atmosphere. The faint hum of machinery echoed through the space, and the scent of oil and Dust hung heavy in the air. I brought the bike to a smooth stop, the engine purring softly before I killed the ignition. Weiss slid off the back.
And then I saw him.
General James Ironwood stood in front of us, his arms crossed and his expression as stern as ever. His gaze flicked from me to the bike and back again, his jaw tightening as he took in the sight of his prized vehicle in my hands.
Ironwood: "You took my bike," he said, his voice low and measured, but with an edge that made it clear he wasn't amused.
Klaus: "I needed a cool getaway bike," I said, shrugging. "And yours was just sitting there, looking all... cool and getaway-ish."
I swung my leg over the seat and stood, trying to look as nonchalant as possible. Weiss shot me a look that was equal parts disbelief and exasperation. She hissed my name under her breath, but I ignored her, keeping my focus on Ironwood.
The General's eyes narrowed, and for a moment, I thought he might actually strangle me. But then, to my surprise, he let out a short, humorless laugh.
Ironwood: "You've got nerve, I'll give you that."
Klaus: "It's one of my many charms,"
I said, grinning despite the situation. Ironwood sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose as if he were already regretting this conversation.
Ironwood: "Do you have any idea how much trouble you've caused? Stealing military property, trespassing on Schnee grounds, and now showing up here like nothing happened?"
I crossed my arms, leaning casually against the bike as if this were just another day.
Klaus: "Well, I did that to save my girl."
I said, my tone light but firm,Weiss's head snapped toward me, her cheeks flushing a faint pink.
Weiss:"Klaus!"
Her voice a mix of embarrassment and exasperation. But I didn't look at her-my gaze was locked on Ironwood, who was staring at me with an expression I couldn't quite read. The General raised an eyebrow, his arms still crossed over his chest.
Ironwood: "Your girl?" he repeated, his tone dry.
Klaus: "Yeah?" I shrugged, trying to play it cool.
Ironwood stared at me, his gaze sharp and unyielding, and for a moment, I thought he might actually scold me again. But then, to my surprise, he laughed-a deep, hearty laugh that echoed through the hangar.
Ironwood: "Kids grow up so fast," he said, shaking his head. "I still remember little Klaus being embarrassed to talk to girls."
My face flushed, and I shot him a glare.
Klaus: "Hey, you don't have to reveal that in front of her."
Weiss, who had been standing quietly beside me, suddenly burst into laughter. It wasn't her usual polite, restrained laugh-no, this was full-on, unapologetic laughter, the kind that made her double over and clutch her sides.
Weiss: "Oh, this is too good, Klaus, embarrassed to talk to girls? I can't even imagine it."
She said between giggles. I groaned, running a hand through my hair.
