02: Escape From The Dead

"Where do we run to?"

The duo ran down a flight of stairs as Y/N stopped abruptly, looking back at her with a reassuring smile.

He was already put in a stressful situation. The last thing he needed was Rei having a panic attack during the apocalypse.

"Back to my house, we'll take whatever we can and meet up at a military base with the others. I assume they're setting up temporary shelters for uninfected civilians."

"Y-Yeah you're right! Now that I know my dad's okay...Oh, we should probably call your house to check if your family is okay!"

She said to which he merely frowned, last he heard of his sister was hours ago when she was stuck in traffic. He wanted to remain optimistic but a rush of anxiety washed over him as he worried for her safety.

As for his mom, she wasn't even in the country. He was really hoping the virus hadn't spread elsewhere already.

"Waste of time. My sister has military experience so I doubt she's in any trouble. Anyways my mom is annoying as hell and isn't even in Japan right now."

She giggled at his comment as she followed him down the stairs once more.

"Well, she's a parent. That kinda comes with the job."

Interrupting his train of thought a loud scream echoed through the entire school building. Almost immediately recognizing who it belonged to Y/N toward the noise without muttering as much as a word to Rei.

"Y/N, wait up!"

Finally catching up to the source of the noise Y/N found himself face to face with two other women, one clumsy nurse who he recognized and the other being a girl holding a wooden katana.

Turning to look at him the swordswoman assessed him briefly before nodding, seemingly deeming Y/N a non-threat with a simple glance.

"I'll take the right side, you take the left."

"Sounds good to me."

Y/N swung his axe at a nearby zombie with immense force, slicing through the upper half of its face while Rei covered him from the back as her spear struck through another zombie's head. Precisely piercing through its skull as it stopped moving almost in an instant.

'she's good at this...'

Saeko made quick work of the zombie attempting to chew on Takagi's face, hitting his head with such force that his skull cracked against the wooden sword.

Falling onto her knees Takagi looked at the corpse of the undead student with a pale expression. Her eyes shook as her heart raced and her breathing grew heavy.
