«Do you know the school at the top of the hill? Well, there's a story about a ghost that haunts it. It is said that every time someone takes a plate of pasta, the ghost of a frustrated cook appears and screams: 'That's not pasta! It's a culinary crime!'
One day, a boy named Johnny, determined to prove he could make a better dish, decided to challenge the ghost. He made a plate of spaghetti so horrible that people fled from the cafeteria! When the ghost appeared, he expected to see the angry cook, but instead, he saw him laughing uncontrollably.
The ghost, with tears in his eyes, said: 'Never in my life have I seen such awful pasta! I bet even the worms would refuse to eat it!' From that day on, Johnny became the 'official cook' of the cafeteria, but only because the ghost protected him from criticism!»
«So... what do you think?» Verosika asks, coming closer with a mischievous look on her face, almost challenging me to say that the story is not satisfactory.
«How should I put it...» I try to hold back my laughter. «It's more funny than scary, I'd say. It also seems pretty nonsensical, I might say.» I get more comfortable, adjusting the pillow under me as I kneel on the bed.
She's not very good at storytelling or making up stories.
«AAAAAA! What a pain!» she says, frustrated. «Listen to this! This one is the good one,» she clears her throat as she changes position, moving from lying face down on the bed to kneeling like me.
I get distracted. Looking around. My house is full of Halloween decorations. Lights on the walls, pumpkins with lanterns, and anything imaginable that could come from the Halloween imagination.
The atmosphere is nice. There's a hint of orange light everywhere I look. The neon lights on the walls in colors contrasting with the first are very pretty. And to improve the atmosphere, there's the incense I lit.
I'm almost tempted to keep the house like this all the time.
It's been two weeks now that we've been in the same house, and all in all, things are going very well.
She's practically been paying for all the groceries, also giving generous tips to the delivery guy every time he comes.
She insisted on paying for the food at least while she stays here, considering it the minimum since I'm hosting her for an unknown period.
At first, I refused, but then I thought it was a nice gesture and that she genuinely intended to return the favor, so it seemed almost disrespectful to refuse.
She even ordered all the Halloween decorations, thinking that the pandemic situation shouldn't stop us from celebrating since it's the end of October.
She also thought about the costumes, forcing me to wear a jack-o-lantern on my head.
Verosika, for her part, put on a witch's hat, which clashes with the rest of what she's wearing, as she only has on some shorts and a tank top. Which, moreover, leaves her belly exposed.
In the first few days, she was bored out of her mind.
Playing the guitar helped her relax, but you can't do that all day, obviously. Unless you want to provoke an angry crowd of neighbors outside the door.
I introduced her to video games, and she seemed to really enjoy them, as she played quite a bit. Yesterday, she did nothing but play all day on the console hooked up to the TV.
We even watched a movie together. While chatting with her, I found out that she likes movies by human directors and says she has a Blu-ray collection at her house.
