The Watchtower hummed with activity, yet (Y/N) found herself caught in a strange rhythm of connection and unease. Her days were filled with training sessions, missions, and small moments of camaraderie with her new companions. Despite the friendships she'd built, the ache of homesickness was beginning to settle deep in her chest.
She missed Danny. She missed her life in Amity Park. And while the heroes around her treated her like family, their attachment sometimes felt... complicated.
"Little Bat, you're going to wear yourself out if you keep working this hard," Dick Grayson said, leaning against the wall of the training room with a playful grin.
(Y/N) wiped the sweat from her brow, her breathing heavy after sparring with Damian. "Says the guy who keeps throwing me into training sessions with your youngest brother," she replied, her tone teasing.
Damian scowled but didn't argue, instead handing her a bottle of water without a word.
"You're getting better," Barbara Gordon added from her station across the room, where she was analyzing mission data. "You just need to trust yourself more."
(Y/N) smiled gratefully, but her attention drifted toward Bruce Wayne, who observed the scene in silence. His piercing gaze seemed to see through her, and for a moment, she wondered if he noticed the subtle shift in the Batfamily dynamic.
"Good work today," Bruce said, his voice gruff but approving. He glanced at Damian. "Make sure she doesn't overdo it."
Damian nodded, already stepping closer to (Y/N). He stayed near her as they exited the training room, his presence both reassuring and... persistent.
Spending time with the Young Justice team was a different kind of challenge. (Y/N) found herself in the middle of subtle but undeniable competition between Tim Drake and Conner Kent.
"Need help with that?" Tim asked one evening as (Y/N) struggled to decipher a particularly dense interdimensional data packet.
"Already got it," Conner interjected, leaning casually against the table. "Besides, she's been working on this all day. She needs a break."
(Y/N) laughed awkwardly. "I appreciate the concern, but I'm fine, really."
M'gann floated into the room, her expression softening as she took in the scene. "You two are smothering her," she said gently, placing a hand on (Y/N)'s shoulder. "Why don't we all take a break together?"
The suggestion eased the tension, and soon they were gathered around the communal area, watching a movie. Despite the relaxed atmosphere, (Y/N) couldn't ignore the way Tim and Conner occasionally glanced at each other, as if silently vying for her attention.
M'gann caught (Y/N)'s eye and smiled, her telepathic voice brushing against (Y/N)'s mind. They care about you a lot. Maybe more than they realize.
(Y/N) blinked, unsure how to respond. She simply smiled back, assuming M'gann was referring to their friendship.
The Teen Titans' Tower had become something of a sanctuary for (Y/N). Starfire's radiant warmth and Beast Boy's endless energy were a welcome contrast to the weightier atmosphere of the Watchtower.
"(Y/N)! Come try this Earth snack!" Starfire called one afternoon, holding up a plate of her latest culinary experiment.
"Uh, is it safe?" (Y/N) asked, eyeing the dish warily.
Cyborg laughed. "Safer than half the stuff we eat around here. Don't worry, I've got backup pizza if it goes south."
Beast Boy grinned, nudging her with his elbow. "And if you're up for it, we can hit the game room after. I've got a high score you'll never beat."
(Y/N) found herself laughing more often around them, her homesickness momentarily forgotten. Even Raven, who typically kept to herself, seemed to find solace in (Y/N)'s presence.
"You're different," Raven said one evening as they sat together in the library.
"Different how?" (Y/N) asked.
"Calming," Raven replied, her voice quieter than usual. "You bring balance to the chaos."
(Y/N) smiled at the compliment, unaware of the subtle possessiveness brewing beneath the Titans' camaraderie.
It was during one of her routine check-ins with Barbara that (Y/N) stumbled across something troubling. While reviewing a report on interdimensional anomalies, she noticed discrepancies in the Justice League's data.
"Barbara," she said, her brow furrowed. "Why haven't there been any updates on finding a way to send me home? I thought this was a priority."
Barbara hesitated, her fingers pausing over the keyboard. "It is... but things take time. These anomalies are complex."
The response didn't sit well with (Y/N), but she nodded, choosing not to press further.
Later that evening, she overheard an argument between Damian and Tim while passing through the Watchtower's hallways.
"If she leaves, everything falls apart," Damian said, his voice low but heated.
"She's not staying forever," Tim shot back. "We have to be prepared for that."
(Y/N) froze, her heart racing. She didn't understand the full context, but their words left her unsettled.
That night, (Y/N) found herself standing on the Watchtower balcony, staring out at the vast expanse of stars. The sight was beautiful but bittersweet.
She thought of Danny, of Amity Park, of everything she'd left behind. As much as she appreciated the friendships she'd formed here, a part of her felt like she was losing herself in the process.
"Danny," she whispered to the stars, her voice barely audible. "I hope you're okay."
Unbeknownst to her, several heroes watched from the shadows, their expressions unreadable. Each of them felt the growing weight of their attachment to her, though none dared to voice it.
For now, they were content to have her close. But deep down, they knew that her longing for home was a barrier they weren't ready to face.
