I frowned to myself as I put on makeup. I still looked like a pufferfish with it on.

I felt like crying.

And I had no choice but to go out like this cause it was my gran’s bday BBQ which I was hosting.

I invited only family and close friends, and they didn’t know about my pregnancy.

I wasn’t planning on telling them either. I didn’t wanna be asked many questions along the lines of ‘who’s the baby daddy?’.

I’d straight up lose it.

But I guess the dress I was wearing was doing a good job of hiding my bump cause ain’t nobody asked anything yet.

Shai was here too and it made me nervous cause if she found out, I feared she’d tell Von.

“Gurl, is you ready yet?” Lani asked as she burst into my bedroom.

“I think so. I just need to put everything back then I’ma come down.”

She groaned and gripped my arm, trying to lift me off the chair. “Deal with that later cause we need to start. I’m too damn hungry.”

I deeply sighed, giving in. “Okay, but lemme put on my shoes first.”

She nodded, backing up.

I turned off my music, then slipped on my black Steve Madden heels and sprayed on perfume.

She eyed the shoes but stayed quiet and just dragged me out of my room to the backyard where everyone was.

They were standing in groups under the shade chatting, soulful music blasting, kids swimming, and having a good time.

I’d already greeted everyone except for the one familiar face.

Shai.

I waved at her, and she smiled, walking towards me, leaving Mel behind.

I took a deep breath and greeted her with a side hug, making sure to be careful with my bump.

“So who you think you fooling cuz?” She spoke causing me to choke on air.

“Roll that back?”

“Imagine how surprised I was when gran talked about a pregnancy I don’t know shit about.”

My breath hitched and I paused.

“Wait, hear me out-”

“How far along are you?” She cut me off and my eyes widened.

“Tone your voice down, you want the whole family to hear you?”

“Oh, I ain’t the only one who don’t know?” She scoffed. “But we close so you been lying to me?”

“You close with Von too though, so I ain’t sure where your loyalty lies,” I told her truthfully.

“He the baby daddy and you ain’t tell him? Damn, you foul for that too.”

I rolled my eyes and tried to walk off, but she grabbed my arm, pulling me back.

“Let’s see how long you can keep up with this secret pooh.” She smirked.

But before I could respond, my uncle yelled out. “Alright, y’all... meat’s ready. Let’s get this food.”

I made a face at her as I pulled away and joined the rest of the family at the table.

Marcus sat next to me and held my hand. He was touchy like that, and I allowed it, but this was not the place.

I didn’t want Shai to take this out of context cause nothing was going on between us.

Just flirting, that’s all.

My heartbeat raced, and I felt my body heat up when I looked at her, and she mugged me.

I could see the hurt in her eyes too.
