✰✰✰

I’ve been feeling uneasy the whole day.

My legs were cramping, my breasts sore and I was too sweaty... I just had to get some fresh air.

Plus I was craving candy.

I wanted a specific kind and I wasn’t seeing them so I just been walking between isles.

My phone vibrated and I saw an incoming call. I answered without checking the caller ID.

“Lani?”

“No, I, uh- it’s Shai.”

I sucked my teeth. “Funny hearing from you.”

“Yea, um, I take it you ain’t heard the news yet.”

“What news?” My heartbeat raced.

She cleared her throat and breathed. “I’ma need you to be sat when I tell you this if you ain’t.”

“Gurl, ain’t no chair near me so might as well get to talking. Just cause I’m prego don’t mean I’m fragile.”

“O-kay, erm... Von. His mama called and she ain’t want nobody else to know bout this but since you his baby mama and all-”

“What about Von?” I interrupted.

“He’s been in a car accident round your block and at the hospital right now. I don’t know his condition though.” She blurted out.

My heart dropped and my knees got weak. I felt a lump in my throat.

No. I can’t cry in the middle of a grocery store.

I took deep breaths to try to stay calm.

“Lakaela is you there? Please tell you ain’t passed out.”

“What hospital he at?” I asked, already hurrying back to my apartment.

“Please tell me you won’t drive at night-”

“Which fucking hospital Shaniqua?” I yelled, losing my patience.

“I’ma text you the name.”

I took a deep inhale and hung up as I felt like I was running out of air to breathe.

I didn’t waste time when I reached my place. I grabbed my keys and purse and went to my car.

I drove at a slow speed cause there was traffic. I saw a drastic scene on the way and teared up.

What if it happened here?

Was he on his way to see me?

I couldn’t stop the tears that were running down my face. I prayed that was not his accident.

I rushed through the hospital doors and looked around for any sign of Trevon’s people

I rushed through the hospital doors and looked around for any sign of Trevon’s people.

But I didn’t see any.

The nurse at the desk looked up as I walked to him. “Can I help you?”

“I’m here for Trevon Josiah Gardner,” I replied, trying to keep calm. “He was in a car accident.”

“Are you family?” he asked softly while tapping at the desktop.

“I’m his girlfriend.” I took out my phone and showed him my wallpaper.

The nurse frowned and shook his head. “I’m sorry, sweetheart. I can’t allow you in. You’re have to wait for his real family.”

Ouch.

I huffed and made a face but went to sit in the waiting hall anyway.

I didn’t care, I was gonna wait, no matter how long it would take.

‘We’re gonna see him and he’ll be okay.’ I thought as I looked down and rubbed my belly.

My babies won’t grow up without a daddy.
