Champagne Troubles

“Oh my! Liam, wow. I don’t know what to say! It’s all so beautiful!” that was an understatement, to say the least. But what else could I say to something as exquisite and luxurious-looking as what my humble eyes were being privileged to look at.

The little dirt-road leaded onto a small, secluded beach somewhere along the River Severn. The beach was completely surrounded by lush, green bushes that grew wildly on all sides. Flowers of blues as deep as the ocean, oranges brilliant as the sun and bloody reds flourished all around, held up proudly to the sun as though saying ‘look at me, have you ever seen anything to beautiful?’. At any other given time the answer to that question would have surely been ‘no’ but presently, as my eyes widened when I noticed what had been laid out on the tiny beach I mumbled inaudibly:

“Yes. Just have.”

Two glamorous chairs were placed facing each other about a small table enveloped with a floor-length, spotlessly clean table-cloth so white it seemed to radiate an angelic glow in the early evening sun. At the table’s foot stood a large wicker basket overflowing with packaging that looked like some sort of fancy tupperware. The table itself was decorated with a small, glass vase full of delicate, pink roses and handsome tableware of the same marvelous shade of white as the tablecloth. A classical bottle of champagne cooling in an ice-filled silver bucket infused the scene with all more glamour.

After the images of all this successfully reached my brain and it occurred to me that this had all been arranged by none other than Liam for none other than me a shy smile crept onto my face. I looked over to the handsome boy who was still, bless him, holding my hand to find his molten-chocolate eyes were already studying me intently – looking out for my reaction. He smiled back giving my hand a slight squeeze. Following with my gaze as his face slipped downwards I noticed a slight, inconspicuous blush.

“It that for me? Liam, it’s gorgeous.” I whispered. Somehow I could not dare to speak louder than a whisper so as not to scare off the fairytale aura that little beach was emitting.

“I’m so glad you like it, Alice. I told you – a girl like you deserves far more than a brainless coffee.” He said locking his liquid-center brown eyes with mine and smiling so sweetly I felt my knees buckle under me. I giggled softly before answering.

“You are a really sweet guy, but I bet a thousand other girls have told you that before me. Though, honestly this is too much. I must have taken ages to set up.”

Liam’s P.O.V.

Actually, no. I’ve been told countless times what cool car I’ve got, what a huge house I’ve got and how hot I am but, no, I have never been called ‘sweet’ before.

“Don’t you worry about that. Your reaction to seeing it was worth all the effort, besides my sis helped out. Like I said, she’s not half-bad at times.”

Alice was so visibly impressed and just plain happy about my surprise that all she did was smile and look around her in disbelief. In fact I couldn’t stop smiling either, she was just too cute. Other girls I’ve dated constantly played hard-to-get and seemed not to get impressed by anything other than credit cards and designer labels. But this little emerald-eyed goddess of a girl had so far not even commented on how “totally expensive” my car looked. In all honesty dealing which this sort of girl was completely new to me but I was enjoying every bit of it. Not to mention the way she talked about writing back in the car – I’ve never before heard anyone talk about something with such a passion. Also her eyes. Oh god the eyes. They were so incredibly deep and vast you’d need a map and a lifeguard to find your way around them. Also, they would change colour slightly depending on how the light hit them. They appeared a sun-kissed meadow when divulged in light but turned to a mysterious rainforest when engulfed by shadows. Eyes were always the first thing I noticed about girls and hers were simply out of this world.  Having this amazing girl all to myself, hearing her laugh at my quirky jokes, seeing that marvelous, dimpled smile of hers – it all made me so inexplicably happy.
