Chapter 4: Family trip

When Audrey and the kids could finally return to Chicago.
Kelly did not know she was planning to move back to Chicago.
Kelly and Stella had already adopted Daphne
who was  twenty two now and had five kids.
Three of whom were adopted by her uncles Darren and Dewayne.
Audrey was able to afford a large private property that could have horses.
When she and the triplets moved back outside of Chicago.
Lexie had a cell phone by this point she texted
Kelly."Hey Daddy it's Lexie. I hope you did not forget about us. I saw you on the news a few years back. You had rescued a girl whose name is Daphne. he was the, sole survivor of that accident. My guess is You and Miss Stella are married and adopted Daphne a few years ago."
Kelly 's heart swelled with love for his other daughter.
Kelly texted back"Lexie Daddy loves you so much. I miss you sweet girl. You moved somewhere near Chicago didn't you sweet girl?
Yes Stella and I are married now and we adopted Daphne.
Sweet Lexie we have some surprises for you.
Our family has been growing Lexie."
Lexie texted back "Daddy I want to meet my sister and the rest of the extended family.
We moved to this farm outside the city.
Mommy thought it would be better for Jackie.
We have a big house actually it should be big enough for  all of us. Mommy had a huge mansion built on the property. We even get horses. I'm so excited daddy I always wanted to ride horses.
Can I  have my older sister's number daddy?"
Kelly chuckled softly and texted Lexie" baby girl slow down.
Stella and I both have to bring your sister to see
you. Lexie sweety you will be able to do all this
soon enough.
Can you give Daddy  the address? I promise we will be there soon.
Suddenly the alarms go off it's a call to a farm for an eleven year old boy.
Kelly 's heart sinks as Lexie 's text comes through confirming his f,ears for Jackie.
Chief Pascal said "Sevride what's going  on?"
Kelly and "Chief Pascal a few years before you came back , my childhood friend Audrey and I
had triplets. One of our other sons Jackie is the boy this call is about. His sister confirmed my fears."
Kelly showed Chief Pascal the.address Lexie sent.
Chief Pascal's expression was grim.
He said "Sevride why didn't you tell me?"
Kelly said "Chief Jackie might die if we don't get there soon. He did have seizures in the hospital after the bad car accident he was in a few years ago."
Chief Pascal needed and 51 rolled out to the scene.
When they arrived Lexie hugged Kelly.
Lexie"Daddy, Jackie is over there."
She pointed to a barn.
Lexie"Daddy, Jackie started seizing not long after we were texting."
Kelly said"Kidd , Violet and Lyla with me."
Stella and the medics followed Kelly as Lexie ran ahead to the barn where Jackie was.
When they entered the barn Lexie pointed at an empty stall. Lexie said"Daddy he's in there."
Kelly quickly opened the stall door kneeling
beside Jackie.
Kelly gently whispered"Jackie, Daddy is right here. Come buddy you got to pull through this."
Violet and Lyla knelt on the other side of Jackie
taking his vitals and giving him meds.
As Jackie came out of the epileptic fit he coughed. Then weakly said "D...Daddy.....w....where.....I.....Is....L....Lexie...?"
Kelly said "Jackie, she is right over there with
Stella. Stella is Daddy's Wife. Can you remember from a few years ago on the video call?"
Jackie"Yes Daddy I remember miss Stella now. "
Outside the stall Stella asked quietly "Lexie show me where your brother's medications are?"
Lexie led Stella into the house to their mothers bathroom where the closet was already open.
Lexie pointed "On the third shelf on the left side. There is an injectable version and pulls
as well."
Stella said"Thank you sweetie. This was very helpful of you."
Stella radioed Kelly"Lexie just showed me where her mommy keeps Jackie's meds.
We will be right back with those Kel."
Kelly radioed back"Stella grab those meds now and come back into the barn."
Stella"Roger that just got the meds on our way back outside."
Lexie said"Stella will Jackie be alright?
Or is this going to be like the last time he was in the hospital? I heard that there is an implant to treat what he has. I think he has something called epilepsy."
Stella said"Lexie do you remember the argument that ended the relationship
between your mom and dad?"
Lexie said"They were arguing about
Jackie's seizures. Dad was convinced that was what was going on. Mom said "It can't possibly be that. I'm sure there is another reason why this is happening.
Then Dad yelled something and stormed out.
When he did not return for a few weeks. Then mom took us to auntie Jen's house."
Stella said"Lexie it is going to be alright your
Dad loves you very much."
Lexie said"Stella Mom left some books for you in her office. She has put out lots of FireHose 66 books she wanted me to join in on writing them when I'm old enough. I'm eleven and a half now. I've already published some books for little kids."
Stella said"Lexie can you show me the books your mom left for me?
When dad and I come visit along with your older sister Daphne."
They walked into the barn and Stella handed Violet the boys medication.
Stella held onto Lexie as Lyla returned with
the stretcher and Kelly lifted Jackie onto it.
Lexie looked up at Violet and said"Can I go with Dad and Jackie?"
Violet"Lexie you can come along. But if you stay here your aunt Cindy will stop by and stay with you."
A few weekends later Kelly and Stella along with Daphne, the twins , Balor, Darren and Dwayne and the triplets showed up at Audrey's
farm.
Lexie ran out "Dad is that Daphne?
Are those her twins and triplets?"
Daphne"Lexie sweetie I'm Daphne Emma Sevride your older sister.
That is Balor Halstead my boyfriend.
David and Gina ran over.
Daphne introduced them This is Gina Lynn and
David Kelly Halstead -Sevride.
And over there are my triplets
Audra Fleur Halstead -Sevride,
Rosalie Cecilia Halstead -Sevride
And Wyatt Matthew Halstead -Sevride."
Lexie"Dad is a grandpa too wow!
I love the little ones already."
Suddenly Daphne noticed David was not close by. Soon she heard a Belch. She called David bud where are you?
She found David near some bushes he had vomited. Daphne whispered" Oh David why did you not tell us you were not feeling well bud?"
David" Mommy it's fine. I'm just fine. I feel much better you  probably ate a bit too much that's all."
Meanwhile Lexie led Stella into he mom's office
Pointing to two boxes on the floor and a stack on her Mom's desk.
Stella"Wow Lexie your mom really is giving me a lot of reading material."
Balor walked into the office I will get them out to your car Mama Stella."
Gina walked in and said"Mom-Mom I want to go horseback riding with Lexie."
Lexie grabbed papers from her mom's desk and gave them to Stella asking"Can you and Dad call the insurance company since they won't replace Jackie's bed that's about to break.
I think Dad's fixing Jackie's bed right now.
Let's get him and go horseback riding."
The three girls were walking upstairs when Daphne joined them.
When his girls walked in Kelly looked up.
Lexie said "Dad we are going horseback riding now."
Stella said"Kel we will call the insurance company about Jackie's bed being replaced.
The paperwork  says you are still authorized on the account. We will call from the firehouse next Tuesday morning."
Kelly nodded" Let's go have some fun first."
They all went out and prepped their horses..
As they were riding Lexie  said" Looks like Gina wants to jump the fence on her horse."
Kelly and Stella shared a glance.
Kelly said" Seems like she wants to go and start
Show jumping.
Stella glared and said"Kel horse shows are so expensive."
A bit later Lexie noticed tears in Gina's eyes.
Lexie"Dad Gina is crying."
Kelly got off his horse and tied  it up.
Next he lifted Gina down from her horse.
He said" Gina what's wrong kiddo?"
Gina sniffled pointing at some trees and bushes.
Gina said"Pop-Pop it's David I think he's sick again."
Kelly said "I'm going to take care of him now no need to worry about this Gina."
When Kelly reached where David was sitting.
David said"Pop-Pop Luca says he thinks there is something buried in this area because it smells
badly. "
After saying this David's belly rumbled and gurgled loudly and painfully.
A second later he belched loudly with a bit coming up. Next thing David started to vomit profusely. A bit later Audrey came over and said"You have anti nausea meds for David?"
Kelly nodded"There is a blue go bag in the car with David's name on a tag."
Audrey took the keys and went and  found David's go bag opening a section labeled emergency. She opened the section and found injectable anti- nausea meds. She grabbed the meds and supplies and locked the door and hurried back.
While Audrey was gone Kelly helped David  make sure his belly was emptied.
Kelly "You doing great Bud let's get that belly of yours completely empty."
Audrey returned and said"Kel here are the meds and I grabbed some electrolyte mix.
I will go and get him some water to drink."
After Audrey went in the house to get water.
David finally caught his breath.
David"Pop-Pop my belly is completely empty now and I feel so much better."
Kelly nodded"David, I think you over ate bud.
How much did you have for breakfast bud?"
David "I had three large plates of Mac and Eggs with veggies and cheese. It was so good I just could not stop eating."
Kelly 'Your mom is sure a great cook bud.
But please promise Pop-Pop you won't  over eat anymore. Your poor belly can't handle that much food. Did you eat that much because you were feeling anxious bud?"
David"Yeah Pop-Pop I ate that much because I was anxious that they would not like me."
After he said this another belch slipped out.
David blushed"Oops that slipped out."
Kelly"Let's get the meds in soon.
Seems like your belly is still relaxing huh bud?"
David "Pop-Pop I'm so thirsty."
Audrey came out with water that had electrolyte powder mixed in , lemon ginger tea and Kambucha.
Audrey said to Kelly "Kel we should take him in and get him to rest in one of the beds."
Audrey handed David bottled water with electrolytes. Audrey said"Drink this and we will get you to bed little man.."
David nodded taking little sips of the water.
Kelly scooped up his grandson. David instantly fell asleep quickly.
Audrey took the water bottle putting the cap back on.
Audrey led Kelly to a bedroom.
Kelly placed David on the bed tucking him in and  kissing his  forehead.
Kelly whispered"Sleep tight bud."
About two hours later David woke up.
David yawned ,and as he stretched a belch came out.
Kelly handed  the water to  his grandson.
Kelly said"David please drink these and we will get your meds in bud."
David finished the water with electrolytes.
He picked up the Kambucha and started to drink making a face.
As the cool bubbly liquid hit his belly David  felt  the last residual  bits of  gas breaking up.
David finished the Kambucha he let out a
round of  prolonged belches.
David grimaced, blushing"Oops I guess there was more in there."
David picked up the lemon ginger tea next.
He felt the soothing warm liquid finish settling
his belly. He let out one more belch.
David said"Pop-Pop please give me my meds now.
Before another bout of nausea comes on."
Kelly nodded and prepped the meds.
David flinched when the needle was in.
Kelly said"Meds are in bud."
David blushed feeling more than just gas about to come out. He walked to the bathroom.
When he was done he showered.
While he showered a few tiny belches escaped him.
When David came out he laid back down.
David"Pop-Pop ,I'm kind of hungry.
But after that I don't want to eat yet."
Kelly said"Bud just wait until you get home."
Daphne walked in the room.
Daphne said"David you were sick again buddy?
You know better than to over eat."
David blushed"Mommy  I know I just can't help it Mommy your cooking is so good."
He turned away pulling  his  hoodie and the blanket over his mouth and letting out a round
of small nearly inaudible tiny burps.
Daphne said"David what's going on buddy?"
David" Nothing Mommy."
Both Daphne and Kelly looked over David's body.
Daphne" Whoa bud looks like you still have a bit of build up."
David blushed"Mommy it doesn't even hurt anymore."
David got up went into the bathroom turned water on and let out more burps and belches.
When he returned David said"Mommy ,Pop-Pop I want to walk to settle my belly more."
Daphne said"Sure bud let's go."
The three took a walk. While doing so David blushed continuing to belch and  passing gas a regular intervals.
After sometime David groaned feeling the need to use the bathroom again.
David blushed running back into the house straight  to the bathroom.
While David was using the bathroom he groaned and belched until all the residual
was out.
David went and laid down again feeling worn out but much better.
Daphne said"Buddy how about a shower to relax you more after all of that."
David yawned nodding and said"Yes Mommy I will shower. Mommy I want to go home so I can have a bit to eat later. I'm so sleepy Mommy."
David went to shower.
While in the shower the hot water continued to soothe his belly. David blushed as a few more belches came out.
When it was time to go home Gina did not want to go she wanted to stay with Lexie.
Gina pouted at Kelly "Pop-Pop  can I stay with Lexie?  I have my things packed to stay overnight. Mommy can I stay?"
Kelly could not  help but grin at the little girl's enthusiasm. He said"Gina little love  we will plan that sometime but not today."
Daphne said"Gina babygirl we have to get your brother home. He was so sick today sweetie."
Gina pouted and said" Mommy I don't want to hear if David  is sick again tonight."
Audrey having overheard Gina's pleas said
"Kel it's really no problem Gina can stay for a few days. I can drop her at school on my way to work a headquarters.  You really should get these things figured out before he is a teen.
Many other kids will stop wanting to  be around a kid who is always sick  Remember Scianna Velez from school she was always sick  and no one seemed to like her.
Sometimes I wonder if she is alright now or she
passed away from whatever she had?"
