OMG DESCENDANTS: RISE OF RED REDESIGN???
so I got like mixed feelings about the new rise of red movie
I actually genuinely like the concept of the movie as I love Alice in Wonderland as a concept, I like the beat and melody of most of the songs, and I can get past some of the cringy dialogue as it is a Disney Channel movie
But the lyrics to the songs are so basic The ending to the movie was absolutely trash And the worst part? the outfits. THE FUCKING. OUTFITS.
NOT IN MY GAY EYES M-M ABSOLUTELY NOT
And so I was talking to one of my irl best friends about it (shoutout to Isa, love u, girlie) and we were brainstorming where the story should've gone and what the characters should be wearing and she was like 'omg you should totally redesign the characters' and i was like 'omg. i totally should'
And BAM. Red✨
Now I feel like I should explain myself a little bit as to why Red lacks a lot of red compared to her original design, and I have two reasons for that
1) The characters in the first trilogy did have one main color that they mostly used, and I feel like the majority of character designers do that (I know I do that), but you can't just have the one color in their color palette, there need to be others to balance it out. The original trilogy did this right (Mal was purple with pops of green, Evie was blue with pops of red, Jay was maroon with pops of gold, etc etc)
But in Rise of Red they're all just decked out in the one color, and I hate it so much 😍
2) It just doesn't make sense for Red to have so much red with her personality. Mal and her buddies WANTED to be just like their parents, which is why they looked and dressed so much like their parents when it came to color
But Red wants to be the opposite of her mom, so why is she wearing so much red, aka, her MOM'S color?? It doesn't make any sense
I did still keep SOME red in her design like her hair and such, because she does still love her mom, but she tries to be defined by black more than anything, with some green to not only balance out the red, but also give Red the impression of a rose
Hence her new name Rose Red, with Red being her middle name/nickname :D
I may redesign more characters of this movie in the future ✨
