ROMANCE

"Come on, slowpoke!" Jinx hollered, halfway up a rickety ladder that seemed way too eager to fall apart. She paused, leaning back just enough to make my heart leap into my throat. "If you can't keep up, I'll leave you behind!"

"You're going to break your neck," I called up, gripping the ladder for dear life.

She snorted, dangling by one hand just to prove a point. "Relax, I've done this a million times. What's a little danger between friends? Or... whatever we are." She winked before scrambling the rest of the way up, her boots clanging against the metal rungs.

I sighed, muttering something about reckless maniacs, but followed her anyway. It was always like this with Jinx. Chaos first, questions later. But I couldn't say no to her, not when she got that spark in her eyes.

The one that said, Trust me. It'll be worth it.

When I finally hauled myself onto the rooftop, she was already sprawled out on the edge, legs swinging over the abyss. The neon glow of Zaun stretched out around us, a patchwork of grime and light, and the faint hum of the city filled the air.

"Perfect spot, huh?" she said, tilting her head back to look at me. Her blue braids caught the faint breeze, and her pink eyes glimmered in the dim light.

I brushed off my hands, catching my breath. "Yeah, sure, if you're into potentially plummeting to your death."

She rolled her eyes and patted the space beside her. "Quit worrying. I didn't drag you all the way up here to listen to you whine. Sit down, will ya?"

With a little hesitation, I sat beside her, the edge of the rooftop far too close for comfort. She dug into a small pouch at her hip, pulling out what looked like a trigger and a mischievous grin.

"Okay, okay," she said, barely containing her excitement. "Ready for the best show of your life?"

"What are you—"

Before I could finish, she slammed the button.

The sky erupted in color. Fireworks shot up from somewhere below, bursting into dazzling explosions of blues, purples, and pinks. The colors reflected off her face, painting her features in a soft, almost ethereal light.

I blinked, stunned. "Did.. did you make these?"

"Of course." She leaned back on her hands, a satisfied smirk on her lips. "What, you think I'd trust someone else to make something this awesome? Please."

The fireworks came faster now, crackling and whistling as they painted the sky with vibrant patterns. I could feel the vibration of each explosion in my chest, the rooftop trembling slightly beneath us.

"Pretty, huh?" she murmured, her voice quieter than usual.

I turned to her, surprised by the softness in her tone. She wasn't even looking at the fireworks anymore. Her gaze flickered between the colors in the sky and.. me.

"It is," I said, though I wasn't sure if I meant the fireworks or her.

She caught me staring and tilted her head, a sly grin creeping onto her face. "What? You falling for me or something?"

I chuckled nervously, turning my attention back to the sky. "Maybe I just can't believe someone like you made something this beautiful."

That earned me a light punch on the arm. "Hey, I'm full of surprises, Y/N. Don't you forget it."

The fireworks started to fade, the bursts of light growing fewer and farther between. The silence that followed felt heavier than it should've, charged with something unspoken.

"Thanks for bringing me up here," I said, breaking the quiet.

Her grin softened, something vulnerable flickering behind her eyes. "Yeah, well you're fun to hang out with. And you don't mind my crazy, so.." She trailed off, biting her lip like she'd said too much.

The last firework shot into the sky, exploding in a cascade of glittering gold. As the light washed over us, she turned to me fully, her eyes locking onto mine.

"Y/N," she said, her voice barely above a whisper.

"Yeah?"

She hesitated, her bravado faltering for a split second. And then she leaned in, her lips brushing against mine in a kiss that was soft, hesitant, but electric.

My heart stuttered in my chest as I kissed her back, the rooftop, the city, the world melting away until it was just us. Her hand came up to cup my cheek, her fingers surprisingly gentle for someone so wild and untamed.

When she finally pulled back, her cheeks were dusted with pink, though she tried to cover it with a cocky grin. "Told ya it'd be the best show of your life."

I laughed, breathless. "Yeah, you weren't kidding."

She leaned back, stretching out like nothing had happened, though the faint flush on her face gave her away. "Don't get used to it, though. I'm not usually this mushy. You just caught me in a weak moment."

"Sure," I said, smiling. "Whatever you say."

The night settled around us, the lingering glow of the fireworks fading into the sky. She didn't move from her spot beside me, and I didn't bother pointing out how close she'd stayed.

For once, the chaos of Zaun felt far away, and as I sat there with Jinx, her hand brushing against mine, I couldn't imagine being anywhere else.
