ROMANCE
The pounding music vibrated through the walls of the underground club, a mix of bass-heavy beats and frantic electric guitar. The air was thick with smoke and the scent of sweat, mingling with the unmistakable tang of Zaun's ever-present industrial fumes.
People were packed in close, dancing, drinking, and shouting over the music. It wasn't the kind of place for quiet conversation, and it definitely wasn't the kind of place for, well.. feelings. But that didn't matter to Jinx.
I leaned against the bar, nursing the drink I'd grabbed for something to do. My eyes followed the chaos of the crowd, mostly lost in my thoughts about everything that had happened the past few days. Jinx had been... unpredictable. But then again, when wasn't she?
She wasn't hard to spot, she never was. Her wild blue hair glowed under the harsh lights, braids bouncing as she moved. She was in her element here, her chaotic energy electrifying everything around her.
She'd dragged me here, claiming it was the "ultimate party of the century" or some nonsense like that. I wasn't sure about the century part, but there was no denying it was wild.
I took another sip of my drink, leaning back against the sticky bar counter. I could still feel the hum of excitement in my chest, but it wasn't just from the music. It was from Jinx. From the way she moved, how her eyes glinted with that uncontained madness that always seemed to draw me in.
And then I felt a sudden, sharp tug on my arm.
Before I could even react, she yanked me off the barstool and dragged me toward the crowded dance floor.
"C'mon, Y/N! This is our night!" she shouted over the music, her grin wide and bright. "We're gonna show 'em how it's done!"
"Wait, Jinx, I-"
"No more waiting!" she interrupted, practically dragging me by the wrist. "It's now or never!"
She didn't even give me a chance to protest. Before I knew it, we were in the middle of the crowded floor, the beat of the music shaking the ground beneath us. People were swaying and jumping to the rhythm, their movements as erratic as the music itself.
But then Jinx did something unexpected.
Instead of her usual frenetic movements, something almost... graceful took over. She pulled me close, guiding me with a smooth motion, and suddenly we were dancing.
At first, I was stiff. I didn't know what to do with my hands, or how to match her energy. But Jinx, in her usual way, didn't seem to care.
She was all over the place, her body swaying and moving with abandon, but she somehow made it look like it was part of the rhythm. I followed her, uncertain at first, but eventually letting myself get lost in the madness of the moment.
And that's when it happened.
I spun her, hands firmly gripping her waist, and for a brief second, I felt like we were floating. She stumbled a little, but I caught her without missing a beat, my grip tightening around her, pulling her back into the rhythm. It was so unexpected, this calmness in the chaos.
Jinx was usually wild, manic. Always moving, always laughing, always doing something. But right now, with the music swelling and our bodies pressed close, there was something different. Something intimate.
Her hands settled at the back of my neck, and she pulled me in closer, her lips brushing the shell of my ear. "Told ya I could be classy," she whispered, her voice soft, but laced with that familiar teasing edge.
I looked at her, my breath catching in my chest. Her gaze had softened, her usual manic energy muted for a moment. Her eyes, those bright pink eyes, looked at me with a quiet sincerity that I rarely saw.
"Classy, huh?" I replied, my voice a little breathless, but I wasn't sure if it was from the dancing or from the way her hands were now resting gently on my shoulders, holding me in place.
She smirked, her lips curling up at the corners, but there was something more behind it. "Yeah. Who says you can't be chaotic and graceful?"
I chuckled, a little caught off guard by how natural it felt, how easy it was to move with her. "I guess I was wrong about you, Jinx. You've got moves."
"I've got everything," she teased, her laughter blending seamlessly with the music. But when she pulled me close into her arms, there was a moment, just a moment, where the joking stopped.
For a second, it was like the world had paused. The music, the people, the chaos of Zaun, all of it faded into the background, and it was just her and me, standing in the middle of this chaotic dance, in the midst of a night that felt strangely... intimate.
I swallowed, unsure of what was happening, but not wanting it to end. The air between us crackled with something I couldn't quite place. Something deeper than the usual banter and teasing.
"You're not bad, either," she said quietly, her voice uncharacteristically soft as she brushed a loose strand of hair from my face.
I couldn't help but smile at her. "Not bad, huh?"
Her lips twitched, her playful smirk coming back, but the tenderness in her eyes didn't fade. "Nah, you're good."
There was a beat of silence, just the two of us swaying to the music, the glow of neon lights casting strange shadows around us.
"I didn't think I'd ever be dancing like this," I admitted, my voice quieter now.
"Well," she said, her smile turning mischievous, "there's a first time for everything, right?"
I nodded, my heart beating a little faster than usual. The warmth between us felt undeniable, the tension thickening in the air.
We continued to dance, but it wasn't just about the rhythm of the music anymore. It was about us. About the way she pulled me close, her fingers brushing the back of my neck with a gentle touch I didn't know she was capable of. About how, despite the chaos and the unpredictability, this moment, this dance, was oddly perfect.
The song shifted, the tempo slowing, and Jinx held me tighter. Her body pressed against mine, her cheek resting gently on my shoulder as she let out a small sigh. It was in that moment that I realized just how much I cared about her. How much I'd always cared, even if I'd never said it out loud.
Her fingers traced circles on my back as the music flowed around us, and for the first time in a long time, I felt like maybe I wasn't the only one feeling something more than just the electric pull of attraction.
The song ended, but neither of us moved. We stayed there, close, quiet, letting the night wash over us. The chaos of the club was still there, but in this moment, we were the calm at the center of it all.
"I think this is my favorite first," I whispered, glancing down at her.
She looked up at me, her expression soft but that familiar smirk still tugging at her lips. "Only the first, huh?" she teased.
I chuckled, pulling her in closer. "Maybe I'll stick around for more."
And just like that, the moment was sealed. The music, the chaos, and the quiet connection we shared, it was more than just a dance. It was the start of something that neither of us could deny.
