FLUFF
The sky over Zaun had been threatening rain all day. You warned Jinx about it, but in true Jinx fashion, she waved you off with a laugh, saying, "What's a little rain gonna do? Melt me?"
Now, huddled under a crumbling roof with water pouring in rivulets through the cracks, you resisted the urge to say, I told you so.
Not that she'd listen, anyway. Jinx paced back and forth like a restless animal, her boots splashing through puddles forming on the uneven floor. She muttered something about storms and Piltover, her words half lost to the constant roar of rain and the occasional rumble of thunder.
You leaned against the damp wall, watching her. She was soaked to the bone, her twin braids sticking to her face and shoulders, blue streaks of dye bleeding into the water dripping from her hair. She didn't seem to care, though. If anything, the storm seemed to fuel her energy.
"Can you believe this?" she said, spinning on her heel to face you. Her eyes gleamed in the dim light, a sharp pink that cut through the gloom. "Piltover gets all their fancy weather machines, right? All sunshine and rainbows for them. And what do we get? This sludge!" She gestured wildly at the rain cascading outside.
"Zaun deserves better. They deserve..." She trailed off, her grin widening into something wild. "They deserve a storm to flood the whole shiny city. Wash out all their smug little enforcers. Just imagine it, Piltover underwater. Bet they'd look real cute with their prissy uniforms soaked through."
You couldn't help but smile, though you tried to hide it. "Yeah, sounds like you've got it all planned out."
"Damn right, I do!" She pointed at you with mock seriousness. "I'd build a bomb that makes rain, but, like, acid rain. Not the fake drizzle they get up there."
"Comforting." You crossed your arms, pretending not to notice how her soaked tank top clung to her skin or the way her tattoos seemed to glow faintly in the dim light.
Jinx threw her hands up, laughing, her voice echoing in the empty building. Then, just as quickly, she slumped onto the ground, sitting cross-legged like a kid. She looked out at the rain, her expression softening in a way that was rare for her.
"Rain's kinda nice, though," she said, almost to herself. "Drowns out the noise, you know? Makes everything else shut up for a bit."
You nodded, unsure if she was talking about the actual noise or something else entirely. With Jinx, it was hard to tell sometimes. She always danced on the edge of chaos, but moments like this gave you a glimpse of something quieter underneath.
You sank down beside her, careful to keep a little distance. Not because you didn't want to be close to her, you did, but because Jinx was like a live wire. Too close, and you risked getting burned.
"Think it'll let up soon?" you asked, mostly to fill the silence.
She shrugged, then leaned back on her hands, tilting her face toward the leaking ceiling. Rain dripped onto her cheek, and she didn't even flinch. "Who cares? It's not like I got anywhere to be."
That wasn't entirely true. There was always somewhere to be, someone after her, some plan to blow something up. But for now, it was just the two of you and the storm.
You glanced over at her, expecting her to start ranting again, but she was just sitting there, her head tilted to the side like she was lost in thought. Her braids framed her face, and the faint light caught on her cheekbones. She looked peaceful.
"You're staring," she said suddenly, not even looking at you.
Your face heated, and you quickly turned away. "No, I'm not."
"Yeah, you are." She turned to you now, a mischievous grin spreading across her lips. "What? Scared of a little thunder, or are you just into me?"
Your heart stuttered in your chest, and you hated how easily she could throw you off balance. "You wish."
"Pfft. Don't gotta wish. I know." She leaned closer, her grin softening into something almost teasing. "C'mon, admit it. I'm irresistible."
You rolled your eyes, though you couldn't stop the small smile tugging at your lips. "You're ridiculous, that's what you are."
"Ridiculously irresistible," she shot back, laughing.
The sound of her laughter, bright and unrestrained, warmed something in your chest. For all her chaos, Jinx had a way of making the world feel... lighter. Like even in the middle of a storm, she could find something to laugh about.
The thunder rumbled again, louder this time, and she leaned into your shoulder, completely unbothered. "Guess you're stuck with me till this clears up, huh?"
"Guess so," you murmured, letting yourself relax against her touch.
For a moment, there was only the sound of rain and the warmth of her against your side. The storm outside raged on, but here, in this tiny, crumbling shelter, it didn't seem so bad.
Jinx sighed, her voice dropping to something quieter, almost serious. "You know... it's kinda nice. Just sitting here. Not running, not fighting. Just... being."
You glanced at her, surprised by the softness in her tone. "Yeah," you said. "It is."
She looked at you then, her eyes searching yours. For once, there was no manic energy, no wild grin. Just Jinx. The quiet, vulnerable part of her she rarely let anyone see.
Before you could say anything, she smirked again, the moment of vulnerability slipping away. "Don't get used to it, though. Soon as this rain stops, we're blowing something up."
"Of course we are," you said, shaking your head.
The rain continued to fall, and for now, you were content to sit beside her, sharing this fleeting moment of peace. Even in the storm, Jinx was a force of nature, and you wouldn't have her any other way.
