Christmas baby

Christmas Day , 1987 .

Dionne Diaz .

I woke up & looked at the sky.

it was Christmas Day lyle was already awake .

"Babe im gunna go next door and I'll see you in a bit"

"Okay" he goes to kiss me but I turn my head

"What's wrong ?"

"Morning breath" He puckered my lips and kissed them anyways .

"Smells amazing" I throw the pillow at him as he runs outta my room laughing.

I go downstairs in my pajamas and see my parents making coffee and my moms famous Christmas cinnamon rolls we always have Christmas morning .

It was Matteo's first Christmas with us so we watched as he opened all the gifts under the tree for him we helped him put some of them together.

Eventually we exchanged gifts and talked for awhile me and sutton got everything we wanted of course .

we got my mom some earrings and a tennis bracelet , my dad a new watch &  we also got them a gift from Matteo .

Christmas Day was going by & I realized I hadn't heard from lyle since earlier this morning but it was fine our families were having Christmas dinner together so I'd see him later , I went by chers for awhile and we exchanged gifts .

I decided not to tell sutton what lyle told me lastnight right away I wanted to enjoy Christmas before I broke the news to her .

we watched a few Christmas movies with matteo and helped my mom prepare the dishes we were making for dinner , since we had thanksgiving dinner at the menendez house we were having Christmas dinner here .

I got dressed & eventually headed downstairs I looked at the time ...  it was 5pm & still no lyle I don't know if I should be mad at him or not .

my mom must've noticed I was anxious because she interrupted my thoughts with reassurance.

"Lyle was probably a little busy today mija don't over think it plus he'll be here in a few minutes for dinner "

With that the doorbell rang .

Sutton answered and immediately ran off with Erik I greeted Jose and kitty and finally lyle .

"Hi"

"Hi"

"Everything ok ?" I asked

"Uhhh yeah everything's fine just a busy day"

"Okay well I love you" he smiled at me

"I love you too"

He was acting anxious and everyone was acting like it was normal when his behavior was in fact odd , maybe it was just me.

We sat at the table for dinner, my dad and Jose talked mostly to themselves and lyle.

my mom talked to kitty and of course Erik and sutton talked I just sat and looked around .

"Enjoying your Christmas Dionne?" Jose asked me .

"Yes it's nice Mr . M thanks for asking"

"No problem"

Ok this is so weird it's like everyone knows I'm sittting here why would he ask me that ? I shook it off maybe he was just trying to engage in conversation because I'm not talking to anyone.

After dinner we went to the tree to exchange gifts .

Erik and sutton exchanged gifts .

Jose and kitty exchanged gifts with my mom and dad .

me and lyle exchanged gifts .

& kitty and Jose also got matteo a few gifts .

everyone opened the gifts and thanked  eachother .

Lyle had gotten me a gold necklace with a diamond heart it was very beautiful. 

I had gotten him new tennis equipment that he had been eying & a few Nike outfits he liked when we last went to the mall .

Everyone looked at eachothers gifts and talked for awhile maybe I was over reacting earlier .

I was talking to Erik and sutton when suddenly everyone got quiet .

I looked around confused.

" Dionne ? "

I turned around to see lyle

" yes "

" I uh have one more gift for you "

"Ok"

He walked up to me & grabbed my hands .

" everyone always talks about us & how we were the best of friends when we were kids , we just clicked & I didn't understand it until you came into my life again I've felt like we never separated "

I smile as he continues nervously.

" stuff wasn't perfect at first because I was nervous that maybe I didn't deserve you & I was scared but I couldn't run from the fact that that you were made for me and I was made for you & the time we've spent together in this relationship has been enough for me to know that I never wanna loose you "

I just looked at him as erik handed him something behind his back and he knelt down on one knee .

"Dionne Marie Diaz will you marry me ?"

I froze for a minute before looking around the room everyone was looking at me & I finally realized they knew the whole time he was doing this today .

"Yes" is all I could get out before I started crying everyone was clapping as he put the ring on my finger it matched my necklace perfectly.

I was overwhelmed with emotions .. this was it , the rest of my life with lyle & it sounded perfect .
