Kimberly stood at the bottom of the Astronomy Tower stairs, her heart pounding in her chest. The cool night air seeped through the cracks in the stone walls, chilling her skin. She glanced over her shoulder, half-hoping someone might catch her sneaking out and stop her. But the corridors were silent, empty except for the faint flicker of torchlight.
With a deep breath, she started up the spiral staircase. Each step echoed in the stillness, her own nerves amplifying the sound. She wasn't sure why she was doing this—what could Draco possibly want? Part of her wanted to turn back, but curiosity, and maybe something else, propelled her forward.
There's no sign of Draco in her sight, Kimberly scoffed to herself, a little bitter. "I should've known he pranked me." Her feet were frozen, unwilling to take her back, yet they continued forward, guiding her to the Astronomy Tower. The door clicked softly behind her, sealing her inside.
"Why should I care if he didn't come," she muttered, sitting on the highest peak of the tower. Her legs curled tightly against her chest, pressed in an uncomfortable way by her frail arms. It was cold—not enough to make her shiver, but enough for her thoughts to swirl in the silence of the night.
Her gaze fell upon the sky, caught by the moon and the stars above. There were creatures watching from the distant forest below, though she didn't know it. The vastness of the universe stretched around her, but it was the moon that captivated her. The planets, their gentle pull tugging her closer, a force that deepened her breath and made her eyes widen slightly. In that moment, she felt nostalgic for lives she'd never lived, for memories she hadn't made.
Her legs dangled loosely over the edge, the cold stone pressing against her skin. She planted her palms firmly beside her hips, the chill creeping into her bones as she pondered her existence—her place in the world. The foreboding feeling wrapped around her like a cloak, but the stars above, as distant as they were, offered her some solace. She imagined herself as a dandelion, petals blown into the vast cosmos, never to return.
"Don't get too close to the edge lest you fall."
The familiar voice of Draco echoed around the tower, cutting through the quiet of the night. Kimberly's lips pressed into a thin line, and slowly, she turned. There he was—Draco Malfoy, standing with his usual rigid posture, his piercing blue eyes cutting through the dark like shards of ice.
She met his gaze, her expression unreadable, but the faintest flicker of annoyance played in her eyes. "Malfoy," she said, acknowledging him. "I thought you didn't come."
He raised an eyebrow, his lips curling into a smirk. "Well, I'm here now," he replied, his voice dripping with his signature drawl. "Glad you could make it, Kim."
