"Bhaiya, no more."
"alright!!! We will now move on to English." Stating this, I begin spreading all the letters from a foam alphabet puzzle on the floor. The princess would have to step on the correct letter as I dictate. Just like how we did in Maths. Today's her recognition test. After these past few weeks of continuous studying I suspect she should be ready enough to tell Which letter is which without seeking help from us.
"Q. And also if possible try to think of a word that starts with the same sound as the letter Q. Can you do this, princess?" I instruct her, working on sounds is yet pending. Hence, she makes mistakes in realizing the accurate sound is acceptable.
"Otay."
" Come on, go stand on the letter Q and speak a word with the similar sound."
"Here, word cute like me." I laugh out hard at her innocent wrong yet correct answer. In a manner she has defined the sound perfectly as per her understanding, also called herself cute. Explaining sounds seems to be a difficult task. How will I describe the difference among C, K and Q?
"Okay okay, next letter is O."
"Here and word otay."
"Great."
"A."
"Apple. I see picture book." (Apple. I have seen a picture in the book.)
"Perfect."
"B."
"Here and word bad. You bad. You no pay me. You sudy me." Oh my innocent soul, her adorable complaints are going to kill me. I stroke her hair tenderly and affectionately.
(here and the word is bad like you are who is making me study instead of playing with me.)
"I asked for the word and not the usage of the word in the sentence, you cheeky princess." She only giggles as I slightly tickle her.
"P."
"Potty." Again that fit of laughter, you always are in when around my lovely sister.
Like this the test continues, she was outstanding in Maths and English, however, Hindi remains the subject of worry for me. She was bewildered and confused in the formation of all the Akshar (letters)in Hindi Varnamala (Just like alphabets in English) and perhaps understandably. Written Hindi is difficult in comparison to other languages.
"Bhaiya, please. No study more."
(Bhaiya, please. I don't want to study more.)
"Yes, yes. We are done. But baby, we will have to pay more attention in Hindi, Okay?"
"Okay.""Bhaiya, bhukh lag gayi." (bhaiya, I am hungry.)
"Of course. As promised Let me cook you something of your choice." Picking her in my arms, I proceed to the kitchen.
"Yeah, I eat poato." (Yeah, I will eat potatoes.)
"Sure, And what will you like along with it?"
"Nothin. Aksh bhaiya no give. Only poato." (Nothing, AKsh bhaiya served only potatoes yesterday.)
"Fine, sit here. Don't touch anything in here. Kitchen is not exactly a child-friendly place."
I dial Aksh's number as I am unaware of how he has fed her only potatoes.
