Ravenstar and his warriors fled the Riverclan camp, their pawsteps sounding against the grass. "Why Starclan? Why?", complained Raccoonmask, and Silverwind swatted her lightly with her tail, "Hush, Starclan knows whats best of us, you can-", Ravenstar snarled, lips curling back, "Starclan?", he ridiculed, "Those ghosts that are meant to keep us safe? From what? They killed Reedstar and Appletree, and they let Riverclan drive us out of Windclan. How did they even get the foxes on their side?". Mothpaw mewed in agreement, "Yea", Silverwind cast a shocked glance in her apprentice's path. "It's only fate that guides us". Ravenstar grunted, "About that fate", his tail fell behind him, and he turned his head to look at Mothpaw. "But you make sense".

Mothpaw nodded respectfully, following just a few tail lengths behind the old tom. Silverwind caught up with Mothpaw, "How could you say that?", she spat, "Against our own warrior ancestors?". Mothpaw shrugged casually, "What do you mean?". Silverwind was baffled, "Don't you believe that our own ancestors are watching over us from Starclan?". Mothpaw rolled her eyes, "Come on Silverwind, you can't seriously believe that cats become ghosts, when you die you die". Silverwind couldn't find any words, her own apprentice whom she'd been teaching for moons didn't even believe in those that were watching over her?

Thrushheart lead the group of cats towards the twoleg places. Tigerstripe marched proudly beside the deputy, his tail raised high, "May I?", he purred, "I can spot danger first". Parrotfur snarled, "What? You just became warrior and you want to go tom, queen and kit on us?". Ravenstar purred at the tom's enthusiasm, "Yes you may Tigerstripe". The clan went on walking, until they heard a loud bark behind them. "Dogs!", yelped Cloudwhisker. Ravenstar watched in horror as a trio of big dogs ran straight for them. "Run everyone", wailed Talltree, "To the trees!". The cats ran up to any tree they could find, but Leafshine slipped and fell towards the ground, landing hard on her knee as a yowl of pain escaped her mouth. The dogs were approaching faster, and there was no way Leafshine could outrun them.

Tigerstripe couldn't bear to watch his own clanmate in danger, and leapt, claws unsheathed at the dogs, "YOU WILL NOT, TEAR MY CLANMATE TODAY!". The dogs turned their heads up in confusion as Tigerstripe sunk his claws into one and ripped its face off. The dogs gasped in horror at their injured comrade, who snarled under it's breath. Tigerstripe leapt at it again, only to be caught in the middle by one's jaws. The whole clan watched in horror, until a twoleg yowled, and the dogs dropped Tigerstripe and ran away. "No", Leafshine sobbed, "No". Tigerstripe's body lay bruised and bleeding, the light in his eyes faded. The young warrior lay limp, his lips still curled in a fighting snarl.

Ravenstar's whole world fell, this couldn't be, his own warrior, who was just an apprentice few moons ago, was dead. The clan gathered around Tigerstripe's dead body while Silverwind helped Leafshine stand. "I don't have the herbs to help her", concluded the medicine she-cat. Parrotfur screeched, "What if this happens to us again, I can't let this happen. What if the dogs come, or some twoleg captures us", she buried her head in her paws, "I don't think I can do this anymore father, I just can't". "What do you mean?", Ravenstar hissed, "You can't-". But Parrotfur already made her mind up, "I don't want to be a clan cat anymore", and she turned around and ran away while the other warriors watched in shock, escpecially Ravenstar, betrayed by his own daughter.
