"Where the hell are they going?" Ruby asks confused while the captain keeps his promise and our boat seems to fly over the waves chasing the treasure hunters.
"I don't know, there's no harbour where they can dock because police officers are watching them all, I made sure of that," I answer pointing at the phone. "I assume there's a cove or small bay near here, well-protected and far away from any town, where they can disembark. I bet they parked their cars near the beach."
The colonel nods and walks into the cabin staggering because the boat is rocking hard, she comes back a few seconds later with a map of the coast and a GPS, she unfolds the map on the deck and we all lean forward to take a look. There're several possibilities but two nearby coves look like the most logical choice, I call the coastguard and they confirm that they're heading to those spots because they've come to the same conclusion. Cecilia Larsen smiles satisfied when she hears that, it proofs that we know how to do the job for which we've been training so hard, before walking into the cabin to talk to the captain. He also confirms that one of those coves is perfect to disembark because shallow-draft boats can get very close to the beach.
"We don't have pistols," Nora shouts to be heard over the engine noise. Dakota and I look at each other and smile cockily before pointing at the sheaths on our shoulders.
"It'll be a knife fight," the marine answers excited and Hanna smiles, shaking her head, exasperated. She knows we both are fans of knives and we train hard with them whenever we get the chance, the Hungarian captain prefers boxing with her fists and has taught us some street fighting tricks.
We all have different skills and complement each other, this is why we're a great team. It's pretty obvious that the boss monitored our movements for a long time and picked out carefully the members of this special unit but I can't help wondering who the women she ruled out were, what kind of skill they had and why she thought they weren't suitable for this mission. I'm sure there're many girls out there that are wonderful officers waiting for an opportunity to prove their worth.
"They're slowing down, I'll call the coastguard to give them our exact location," the captain yells from the cabin and I turn my head to take a look. He's right, our attackers stopped and are jumping out of their boat, swimming and running clumsily to try to reach a small beach.
"Be careful," the colonel warns us when we get up to follow them. "I don't want to see stupid heroics, if you end up injured our wounded, I'll get very mad."
"Isn't it touching how much she cares about us?" Tara asks quietly while we jump over the gunwale and land on the water that reaches our thighs.
I roll my eyes hard and shake my head before running clumsily. The blonde Valkyrie is worried in case one of us has to go to the hospital because we wouldn't be able to fulfil our missions successfully, she'd look bad in front of the NATO big shots and would ruin her plans to open the special forces to other women. We all get closer to the beach finally and it's easier to run. Our attackers are trying to move away from us as fast as they can and run towards a parking lot behind some sand dunes where their cars are waiting for them.
"The dark-haired guy is mine," Dakota shouts pointing at the man that's closer to her.
"Okay, I'll take the one with broad shoulders," I answer chasing my prey across the beach. Judging by his husky build, it's the same guy who fought me underwater and we got some unfinished business. Hanna chases another attacker who runs nimbly on the wet sand and the girls are trying to catch the last one, the boss stays behind us, watching the treasure hunters' boat and talking to the coastguard on the phone. I think I can see the lights in the distance, out at sea, they'll be here in a few minutes but not before the thieves run away. We must stop them somehow.
