"Riley, he's crying again," Jax groaned, his voice muffled by the pillow.
Riley rolled over, running a hand down her face. "It's your turn."
"My turn? I just fed him an hour ago!" Jax protested, sitting up.
"Well, you're better at soothing him," Riley countered, throwing off the covers. But seeing Jax's tired yet determined face, she softened. "I'll go this time. You need rest."
Jax grabbed her wrist gently. "We'll go together."
They shuffled into Leo's nursery, both bleary-eyed but united. Riley picked up their son, rocking him gently while Jax hummed a soft lullaby.
"Parenthood is no joke," Riley muttered, glancing at Jax.
He chuckled softly. "And yet, I wouldn't trade it for the world."
Balancing Work and Family
Riley struggled to juggle her demanding career and newfound role as a mother. She often found herself taking calls with Leo in one arm and a laptop in the other.
"Ms. Slade," Ethan said during a board meeting, "you're on mute."
"Of course I am," Riley muttered, fumbling with the unmute button. Behind her, Leo cooed in his swing.
The board members chuckled, but Ethan quickly stepped in. "Let's give Riley a moment. Running an empire and being a mom isn't easy."
Riley smiled gratefully. Later, she confided in Jax about her struggles.
"I feel like I'm failing at both," she admitted, slumping onto the couch.
Jax sat beside her, taking her hand. "You're doing amazing, Riley. You're allowed to ask for help. Lean on me—I'm here."
His words eased her guilt, reminding her that they were a team.
Jax Finds His Groove
While Riley navigated her career, Jax embraced his role as Leo's primary caregiver. He documented every milestone, from Leo's first laugh to his fascination with colorful toys.
"You're spoiling him," Riley teased one evening, watching Jax set up an elaborate sensory play area.
"He deserves the best," Jax replied with a proud grin.
"And so do you," Riley said, kissing his cheek.
First Family Outing
One sunny weekend, they decided to take Leo to the park. Jax packed a diaper bag with military precision, while Riley strapped Leo into his stroller.
The sight of the three of them—Riley's commanding presence, Jax's warm demeanor, and Leo's cherubic smile—turned heads.
"He's going to grow up so loved," Jax said as they watched Leo nap under a tree.
"With you as his parent, there's no doubt," Riley replied, intertwining her fingers with his.
Reflecting on Their Journey
That night, as they tucked Leo into his crib, Riley and Jax stood quietly, watching him sleep.
"We've come so far," Riley murmured.
Jax nodded, resting his head on her shoulder. "From the whirlwind of meeting you to this... our family. It's more than I ever dreamed of."
Riley kissed his temple. "You've made me better, Jax. Stronger, softer, and more complete. I don't say it enough, but I'm grateful for you."
Jax smiled, his eyes shining. "And I'm grateful for you, Riley. You taught me how to be brave, how to trust, and how to love without fear."
Hand in hand, they walked back to their room, their hearts full of love and gratitude. No matter what challenges lay ahead, they knew they had each other—and now Leo—to face them together.
Their journey as parents was just beginning, but Riley and Jax were ready for it all, united in love and determination to give their son the best life possible.
