"Ow...Ow...OW!" I yelp out pulling my face away.
Sam pulls the wet cotton ball away "Well, if you hold still, it won't hurt as much."
"Well, you're not exactly being the most gentle either Sam," I fuss. The small hanging flaps of skin she's touching feel like they're on fire.
"Stop whining. If I don't clean your face, it'll get infected. Now hold still," she cups the side of my head to keep me in place.
"Mmmmh," I groan.
I told her I could do it myself, but she insisted that I needed help with cleaning up my cheek. I won't say it's because I'm down a hand because I refuse to let go of the medal, but she took it upon herself to clean it with some water and soap to get all the dirt out of it. It made my eyes water and my face burn, but I know it had to be done. She said it wasn't too bad, but I don't know how much I believe her. She had to remove some of the thin skin flaps that had been torn by the rock.
Robby on the other hand stood in the doorway of the bathroom; his arms crossed firm against his chest as he leans against the frame. He hasn't said anything. It's the quietest I've ever seen him. There's this shadow over his eyes that makes me worry. He didn't say anything when he first saw me, but he glared in a way that even death would fear. He's pissed.
"So, what type of rock was it? Are you gonna be scarred for life? Google says you are," Anthony asked from the toilet lid he's sitting on. He's playing on his iPad, he hasn't seen me very much, but he still wanted to be included. And he's not wrong face's scar really easily because they're so exposed to the elements.
"I don't know and maybe. And if mom asks, I fell, okay?" I tell him "When's dad supposed to get home? Ah!" I wince as Sam touches a sensitive part "It's late."
Sam continues to clean and put some ointment on it making me squirm. I will say something about the three of us just being in a room together again was making me feel much better. This simple moment made me realize how much I haven't been spending time with them, and how much I missed their presents.
She shakes her head "I don't know. He hasn't really been at work a lot lately. He's just been at the dojo with us. He's probably staying late to catch up on everything he missed."
Drowning his sorrows in karate. Trying to save the students he had instead of the daughter he lost. A real martyr if you ask me. Except it wasn't his life he was sacrificing it was mine.
"What did he even tell you guys? About what happened."
She sighs and glances at Robby "He said you and your friends trashed the dojo and stole the medal. I didn't know if I should have believed him or not but- Leia what happened? And no more bullshit, I'm serious," she put on that nagging older sister tone that I always hated. But it makes me feel nostalgic.
She puts a square piece of gauze and some medical tape on me.
"Anthony don't repeat this," I give him warning. I didn't want him to go telling mom or dad anything. I gather my thoughts and choose my words carefully "I got into a fight with someone who I don't consider my friend. He lost and got mad about it then got some other kids together to mess up the dojo. I didn't know they were going to do that and then dad assumed I had something to do with it."
